Hi all,

I really want a sideboard for my living room but can't choose, I'm not even sure what I like. All I know if I don't want anything mirrored or too old fashioned. Is anyone willing to share pics of their living room/side board to inspire me?
Or even willing to suggest styles or links of possible sideboards that may suit my living room? Ignore the pumpkins, this was taken in Oct!

Thank you!

Do you have any other colour of wood in this room?

rwalker · 08/03/2023 18:28

Sideboards can be very expensive so tend to play it safe

i used to have wood one got it from market place.£40 Painted it few times with frenchic. Paint. Had it black , green .white and the dreaded grey
took a tenner of paint and afternoon looked like new
where as if I’d paid hundreds of pounds wouldn’t paint it and be stuck with what I’d bought

I think a console table might work better than a sideboard unless you need storage. I'd say a mid oak finish would work well with the brass mirror and off white walls.

@NevieSticks not really, only a Welsh dresser but I want to sell and replace with a sideboard.
I've a side table that is glass with like an antique/dark brass rim.

@rwalker they are expensive,.I think that's why I'm struggling to decide! I want something "current" that matches the living room but that would also look inoffensive if we ever wanted to change the decor

I got a really nice cream and oak one for £65 secondhand, if you're not sure get something cheap.

I'd go classic rather than current, personally.

I got a side board and matching tv cabinet from
Swoon. The tv cabinet was ordered, however before it was delivered it was reduced on the website so they refunded the difference in price. They have a good selection on the website and customer service is great.

Ours is a vintage Lebus sideboard that we found on ebay. We like an eclectic look and had previously had a much larger oak one which I eventually painted. This time I wanted something with a smaller footprint and I was going to buy new but thought a contemporary piece would date quickly.

However I didn't want to get something that looked typically mid century so searched for ages to find one that is a bit different. The one I eventually found has an A-frame style which is a nod to the Arts and Crafts Movement which we admire. It was about £400 so less than the contemporary ones we'd considered.
