Sending a Parcel To France and Custom Charges?

Hi all just wondering if anyone can advise?

Sending a parcel of gifts to family in France, approx. value £250, weight around 5kg.

UPS quoted online roughly £12.99 standard to £20ish going up for express etc. Thought great!

Family have just informed about Custom Charges? Its been a while since I have shipped to them.

Trying to look online and shows anything over £135 incurs this, which is fine. However, I'm struggling to find out how to pay this before scheduling delivering? As nothing shows up on UPS/ParcelForce etc when going through quotes. Shows no option to add a custom charge.

Anyone know how to do/pay this? Or how much it is? Obviously do not want family to incur this cost at their end with it being gifts, also shows if I do not pay this, they would be waiting longer for parcel approx 3 weeks, to get a reference number and pay the charge, which would prefer not to happen and sort myself.

I did look through Royal Mail, but their max weight state 2kg.

Any advice/info greatly appreciated x
