Will school do anything about item stolen from bag?

DD14 has had her headphones taken from her closed schoolbag today at school. Either during PE or during a fire alarm, the only two times she didn't have her bag with her.

Fwiw she's a sensible and reliable kid who I am certain is telling the truth.

ExH thinks we should report to school but I have a feeling they won't care or do anything at all about it?

Well if you don't report how on earth are they meant to do anything? You need to report if you want to know if something will happen.

You can report it to the school and see if they have any CCTV footage that they could follow up on. Is there a chance they could have fallen out her bag or pocket at some point?

I would imagine after a brief check, school are likely to say that they don't advise students bring valuable items to school and they're not responsible for items that get lost or stolen.

I would report it. Probably won't get them back but the information might contribute to identifying a pattern/culprit.

I used to be a governor at my dcs' secondary school and yes, they would say that pupils shouldn't take anything of value to school etc, but they also took theft very seriously. I remember we used to get reports on behaviour and theft incidents and if there was a cluster of thefts in one particular year group or at a particular time of day then questions would be asked and culprits sometimes found.
