Bloodpressure - any HCPs around?

Quick question if you have been to the doctors for high blood pressure, had a 7 day monitor with an average 160/118 with some highs of 180/120. Would you be happy waiting for 4 weeks for a follow up?

ECG and blood test booked but 4 weeks seems a while. If my blood pressure reached 200/130 should I do something or just wait for this appointment in 4 weeks?

have double posted in health but adding this here for more traction hopefully.

Send an email in with your list of blood pressure. Ask if you can get an appointment with the heart nurse. They could start you on blood pressure meds.

Yes, I don’t think I would be happy to wait that long for a review. Are you on any medication?

I'm in hospital as my blood pressure was over 140/90 which is cut off. I am pregnant so not sure if thresholds different. So yours sounds very bad 😬

Nope no medication has been offered. Just this appointment and haven’t even spoken to the doctor since I submitted the 7 days reading morning and night. First app with doctor when flagging BP due to headaches.

Just rang and they said if it reaches 180/120 then to call for a same day appointment with GP….had to point out that two of the 7 day readings already reached that level. They are going to call me back, the GP didn’t seem too bothered about the high readings.

None smoker, healthy BMI, eat healthy, in 30s and run regular. So no life style factors at play

The GP sent me straight to the hospital (where I was admitted to for a week) when I had a BP of >180/120. I skipped a&e and was sent straight to the ward and given amlodopine on arrival. The high BP had damaged my heart. I was 33. Turns out the high BP had damaged my heart.

The headaches with a high BP is a massive red flag. 180/120 with headaches is a possible hypertensive crisis. Call your GP surgery back.

Did you get hold of the gp op?

Bloodpressure · 08/03/2023 18:56

Yes managed to speak to them, they didn’t seem too concerned so came and used their machine. Readings still high, went to submit them at the reception and she went to see the go straight away. Said I needed to be seen now by a GP. Been given some tablets a mini ecg etc heart sounds fine etc. They can refer to a cardiologist but they will want these tests they have planned already. So waiting on these tests.

Was told any severe headaches or issues to go to a&e straight away
