Songs on TV for toddlers that isn’t Cocomelon

My wife and I set out with the wonderful intention to not let our child to watch TV, but we’ve seen the errors of our ways. A little TV (20 minutes a day or so) can be quite good when we need to get something done, and if it’s good, not addictive and educational, why not?

We have access to YouTube and Netflix, and we’re looking for something like songs, but on YouTube, it’s only ever cocomelon. Does anyone know a channel or programme for children’s songs that isn’t cocomelon? Preferably something with a real person and not cartoon characters?

The wiggles. They are on Netflix and YouTube.

Ms Rachel on you tube she’s annoying but DS has picked up so many actions and words watching her talk and sing songs

LaRitournelle · 08/03/2023 07:11

Miss Rachel definitely.

Do you have iPlayer? If so look up the CBeebies channel. Lots of options there.

Personal favourites are Bluey and Hey Dugge.

The Laurie Berkner Band

We watch Something Special on iPlayer. It might not be quite what you're looking for with the songs - there are a couple but not loads. But it is good.

Search for Mr tumbles nursery rhymes on YouTube There are a few compilations of the songs on there (on the official CBeebies channel).

Mine like Disney Nursery Rhymes on YouTube or Disney+, and I recommend Super Simple Songs on YouTube too

Itsrudemeghan · 08/03/2023 09:14

I love Super Simple Songs on YouTube

Me too. Catie is so lovely!

Word Party. Got sucked in seeing Jim Henson's name on it and now DD is addicted and we know all the words to all the bloody songs. It's actually quite sweet, the babies (four different animals) do activities and learn life lessons and words (hence the name - there is also a Math Party) and have a singsong about it. It is American but does have an English setting on Netflix which sounds very strange to us now!

GoodChat · 08/03/2023 10:03

The Baby Club is good and only 10 minutes or so per episode

ThreeFeetTall · 08/03/2023 10:06

My toddler likes the songs that numberblocks do (on IPlayer)
I fucking hate cocomelon and blocked it from Netflix.

When we ask what the kids want on the TV the 3 year old shouts "not cocomelon". She's not really bothered about anything else Grin

Ringmaster27 · 08/03/2023 10:09

My 3yo is loving Bounce Patrol on Prime at the moment. Pretty sure it’s available on YouTube too. There’s a superhero song that she’s obsessed with and does all the dance moves 🙈😂

GoodChat · 08/03/2023 10:20

Or OP if you want to mix it up just chuck the Wednesday Addams Goo Goo Muck video on YouTube - my 18 month old asks for it all the time and copies the dance Grin

cbeebies pantos have lots of good songs and I think you can listen to them in their own ( without the whole panto)

numberblocks and colourblocks on CBeebies

Wiggles

Our top favourite (in the innocent days before I had ds2 and the tv became all powerful) was a Raffi CD of songs about food.
if you look for Raffi on you tube, he did lots of concerts in the 80s that are really engaging and cute

Cocomelon gives me the rage!!!!!

Sweetpea1532 · 08/03/2023 17:23

The Wiggles is amazing@Ricketts My DGS started watching the show when he was about 18 months old..he's learned so much about music and different instruments. And lots of songs. He has a little bag of play instruments and will run and go get the different featured instrument so he can play along. They play all types of music..not just kids songs. Symphony, jazz, country. They also feature ballet segments. Who knew toddlers would be so enthralled with such music. The group presents things in such a way that is relevant to them.
I believe, could be mistaken, that all the characters on the show ate real live humans.
DGS 's favourite segment was the Scottish Drum Corp and the bagpipes.

Moonkittens · 08/03/2023 17:41

Nick Cope's popcast on cbeebies is lovely, songs that are pleasant to listen to as a grown up! My DD used to love it but unfortunately does prefer cocomelon these days!
