Can you draw a plan of the house you grew up in? The whole garden of mine came into my minds eye this morning and I drew a plan. But I am not sure I can do the house. I moved out about 25 years ago and it was sold about 15 years ago. What about you??

Yes, I think I can. Was a 2 bed flat. I remember we had a massive lounge.

MrsDoylesDoily · 07/03/2023 23:00

Yes, but my 92 year old dad still lives in the house I was born in so I guess that's cheating 😋

NewYearNewUsername23 · 07/03/2023 23:00

The one we lived in from when I was just under 4 yes.

purpleme12 · 07/03/2023 23:01

Yes definitely. I moved out about 24 years ago.

bluebeardswife7 · 07/03/2023 23:01

The more I think about the garden the more I remember of the house. I can remember lots of details but not so much the actual house.

Yes, easy, and having thought about it I reckon every house I’ve ever lived in, including short term ones from my long gone student days.

But I have a very visual memory and see everything in pictures, learn everything by looking at it. If you asked me to describe my childhood house in words, or recall sounds or smells associated with it, I’d most likely be totally stuck!

huji · 07/03/2023 23:03

Yes and I moved out 36 years ago when I was 11
I could draw you a plan that is probably scaled correctly too as I can remember how we had the beds set out

bluebeardswife7 · 07/03/2023 23:05

But when did you stop visiting there @huji

Easily. I can do a plan of the house we moved out of when I was five, and that's 32 years ago. I can also do a plan of my nan's house that was sold in 1995. I can even remember the patterns of carpets and wallpapers.

Giggorata · 07/03/2023 23:05

Yes, every nook and cranny. I moved out in 1970/1.

snitzelvoncrumb · 07/03/2023 23:09

Yes, I could draw a map of the house and farm. I moved away 30ish years ago.

huji · 08/03/2023 09:11

When I was 11 years old

huji · 08/03/2023 09:16

Sorrry that was @bluebeardswife7

To be honest I have a very very visual memory and brain in general

I can go into a room and see it decorated in a different way with different furniture etc. I can draw a plan of that too. V helpful when moving into new houses. I have also been able to draw potential house alterations and have been able to give them to architect who have said it has made their job loads easier!

I wish I had now studied architecture but my school had terrible careers advice- just pick one of your a levels and do it for a degree was what they advised. I ended up becoming a teacher.

I have a photographic memory and can visualise every room, down to wallpaper.

If you go on rightmove you can check inside your fomer homes on Sold Prices! Seeing the changes is interesting.
