Birmingham airport snow! Parking?

Hi,
Am due to fly from BHX on Fri early morning. The forecast is for snow. I have to book a carpark - anyone any advice please?
I'm quite anxious the ones 14min away might be under snow!

Is there a weather warning for heavy snow? You can still park when there's snow on the ground. Or do you have two separate issues, the snow and the parking?

Namechangeforthis88 · 07/03/2023 21:28

BBC says sleet and rain.

lovechickencrisps · 07/03/2023 21:30

Drive to a local railway station that's not under snow and get the train / air rail link system Hmm

lilao · 07/03/2023 21:33

We always use car park 1 which the multi storey opposite. It's about 1-2 mins walk across the main outside area before you enter the terminal (jet2 end)

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 07/03/2023 21:40

I was looking at car park 1 - easiest, but £100+.
Shuttle Airparks, bus every 25 min, then takes 14min, £50+.
I was just worried that I'd have travelled miles to get there in time and then be TRAPPED IN THE SNOW only 14min away!

Tell me I'm being dramatic. (Also haven't used BHX before).

Your being dramatic

Everything will be fine

User0610134057 · 07/03/2023 21:42

You’re being dramatic
and tbh if the snow is bad enough to stop you parking/trap you then your flight is hardly likely to be taking off is it 😂

Hellocatshome · 07/03/2023 21:43

gogohmm · 07/03/2023 21:43

From the forecast it's pretty unclear. Latest prediction is no snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/03/2023 21:43

Hopefully Birmingham should miss the worst of it on Friday. I think if you check how it's doing on Thursday you'll have a good feel for what it will be like.

Clammyclam · 07/03/2023 21:44

Pay the money and go for the carpark directly opposite the terminal.
Chances are it won't snow and you'll be annoyed at having spent the money but you'll be close by and it's easy down the lift and over the road.
But!!.. If it does snow you'll be absolutely fine getting in as you know the roads will be cleared around the airport and will thank your past self for being organised!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 07/03/2023 21:44

AccuWeather has Birmingham down as being a trace of snow on Thursday - less than a cm.

I’ve found weather forecasts of late to be very bad at prediction, especially the bbc who had us down as being -5 with heavy snow last night - yet in reality it was t shirt weather at midnight and heavy cloud with zero rain let alone snow!

EduCated · 07/03/2023 21:45

It is not a big airport. The roads around it are main roads/motorways, so likely to be kept pretty clear.

PhillySub · 07/03/2023 21:49

You believe that you will be able to drive to the airport without any problems but as soon as you switch off the ignition in the car park, 4 feet of snow is going to fall in a matter of minutes and you won't be able to travel the last bit to departures? Really?

Ginormarse · 07/03/2023 21:51

Park at Birmingham international station there is a covered carpark there. Get monorail to airport. Cheaper than parking in the multi storey at airport.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/03/2023 21:58

You should be OK as I believe they operate Husky Dog Sleds during March and April at Birmingham Airport.

Top tip: Don't pack any sausages in your luggage, it can distract the dogs.

Definitely use this one but it will be expensive at such short notice

Clammyclam · 07/03/2023 22:12

After my post I got an email saying there's an offer on parking at BHX- spooky!!
It's just a code

Might help you!

Things like that happen to me, unnerving, even if it is just cookies and mind readers at play.

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 07/03/2023 22:20

Awww, you guys, you've made me laugh and I've learnt loads of useful things too (sausages!).
Didn't know there was a monorail, the station sounds a good bet @Ginormarse I just put in the dates and times and it's £30 pre-booked!
But am tempted to just drive in and get a ticket, should be spaces at 4am.
Thank you particularly to those who supplied outright mockery, it worked.
OP leaves to remove snow chains from Fiesta Anymore handy hints about Birm Int Rail or Airport gratefully received!

Yy to parking at the station. Or get the train there even. Monorail to the airport is v rapid and easy. Then it’s a two minute walk. Love BHX so much better than Manchester.

shortsaint · 07/03/2023 22:54

You'll be fine. I got stuck abroad deluding Beast from the East and when I got home 2 days later than planned my car was in the multi storey nearest to the terminal (so close). I was dreading being charged loads extra and they just lifted the barrier for me when I explained. So nice!
