Why does my dh repeating what I say to the dc?

For example; I say to DS ‘Don’t throw the pens, it’s dangerous and it makes a mess’ Ds says sorry, then DH immediately says ‘yes DS, if you throw them it could go in your brother’s eye and he’d be blinded and who do you think will clean all that up? You should take care of your things because you’re lucky to have them and if you break them blah blah..’ on and on until DS is bored and upset and doesn’t really care anymore. If I say, out of earshot ‘that’s enough now’ he turns on me ‘what? So you can parent him but I can’t?’
It’s SO tedious. Why does he do this?

After you've told him off your partner shouldn't say anything. It's undermining.

God, my husband used to do this too. Drives me crazy.

Might be worth trying to explain that the message gets across better if it’s short and clear so if you’re both repeating the same stuff, it doesn’t help. It’s not about you v him.

From that example, it's almost like he's trying to reinforce/back you up. But going a bit too overboard and when you say something getting a bit defensive?

Maybe just mention you appreciate his back up, but he doesn't need to go on and on and on? Just a "yeah, your mum's right, you could hurt someone doing that and we don't want that do we?" Should be enough.

I don’t know, but if you find out can you tell me? My DH also has the annoying over-explaining of a dealt-with issue and I can confirm it does not get better results as your DC get older and the issues aren’t pen-throwing…

I love him but gah!
