Sore throat that won't go

I've had a sore throat for 3 weeks, it's been so bad I've been waking up in the night to take painkillers. I went to Dr a week ago and they said it looked red but no white spots, gave me antibiotics and difflam spray. It's no better and i finished the antibiotics on Saturday. I spoke to doctors today (after being on hold for an hour) and they said to go to pharmacist and see what they can give me. Wouldn't give me an appointment.

Went to pharmacist who said carry on with the spray but that's not going to cure it is it. Really fed up!

So sorry to hear that, it’s terrible 😞 I had a sore throat for 3 weeks, then it got better, and then after three days it started again and stayed for another week. The good news are, it’s finally gone, so hopefully you’re not too far away! But otherwise maybe you should try to call the GP again and insist to be seen. They’ve told me that if a sore throat doesn’t go away within 3 weeks, they would investigate. I’d tell them that it’s more than 3 weeks now and there’s no improvement.

How painful is it? A few years ago I had quinsy. No gp would listen to me so I took myself to urgent care/minor injuries and I always admitted overnight for intravenous antibiotics. If it feels that bad and you can't swallow etc then I would do that. BTW I had no white spots on my throat either.

Thank you, I told them yesterday its been 3 weeks but they just said nothing they could do and speak to the pharmacist! I've also spent 20 pounds on antibiotics and the throat spray they said to get!

Hi although it's painful I can eat and drink ok and swallowing food and drink doesn't hurt, it just hurts the rest of the time!

The antibiotics got rid of it but it came back.

Do you have digestive issues or an acidy stomach? I had this once and it was reflux (or something) — churny stomach effectively splashing acid back up my throat. Caused by stress/anxiety.

cheeseisthebest · 08/03/2023 07:45

I do actually but I've improved my diet which had really helped with the heartburn and reflux.
