Digital Accounting Software - Self Employed

Can anyone who is knowledgable in this field please recommend a software/app for filing accounts digitally to HMRC for a self employed person.

Don't mind paying for software.

Am I right in saying I only need it to evidence expenses for digital tax/VAT returns?

I use Excel for tracking all other accounts and I am only doing them for a sole trader so Income/Expenses are all mostly straight forward.

Xero, much has better reporting IMHO and easy to use once you get used to it. Most accountants favour Xero now. Easy to link up with HMRC for Vat returns. Invoices take just seconds to produce.

Definitely not Sage unless you are experienced at bookkeeping. Xero is better for you as easier to use.
