Anyone's DH had a back waxing/ hair removal?

DH is fairly hairy all over and whilst I dont mind it chest-wise (it keeps me and him warm) the hairy back can be a bit offputting.

Now we are beginning to think about summer holidays and an early contender is a Spanish beach one which my teen daughter said Dad you'll have to get your back waxed if you want to sunbathe by the pool.

He laughed this off but it got me thinking is back waxing a thing worth doing? Would it look a bit odd if he just has it done before the holiday? Any tips?

Any tips?

Let him decide for himself if he wants it doing, don't let a teenager dictate his choice.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 07/03/2023 12:09

My DH is the same and has his done for years - in fact it grows back in little patches now. No issues, he books his appointments and gets it done a couple of times a year now.

Might be worth getting it done a few weeks before he hits the sunbed as it can be sore

Or you could just accept him for who he is and stop trying to dictate how a grown adult man chooses to groom?

Dh had his done after a single offhand comment from me which landed poorly, but I think it had been playing on his mind.

He had it done 2 weeks before going on a pool based holiday, no problems at all, just booked himself in at a local waxing place and they talked him through everything, only thing was not to shower for 24/48 hours afterwards.

He did ask me what to expect, but as I've never had a leg/bikini wax I said I wasn't much help!

Didn't look odd at all, and he had it done again since so I think he prefers it.

If your teenager is ashamed of and mocking her Dad’s body hair then you need to work on her character and particularly her manners, including the fact that its very rude to make personal remarks about others’ appearances.

If you encourage her in bullying her Dad into a painful experience for vanity reasons then that’s some pretty bad parenting from you. 👀

Given your daughter’s personality you might also want to keep an eye on how she treats her friends and any hints school may drop about if she is bullying there. She seems the type to be quite nasty to her ‘friends’.

I disagree @ZeldaB its not gay at all! I think its just that male grooming has more focus and waxing is more seen, particularly among younger men.

Many younger males on television are waxed now.

torquewench · 07/03/2023 12:18

The lady I go to for waxing does backs. She told me most of the men who go to her do so because being less hairy makes it easier to apply sun lotion

Bloody hell, have a word with yourself.

God @ZeldaB you're a barrel of laughs aren't you? 😐

OP i wax my husbands back a few days befopre we go on holiday. He's hairy all over but is self concious about back and shoulder hair. I just buy the strip wax and do it for him, but it would be easier if he would just go off to a salon! Loads of blokes i know have their backs waxed, and their bums as well actually. And they are all builder types!

FooFighter99 · 07/03/2023 12:28

My DH has a very hair back, he usually asks me to shave it for him in the warmer months - don't think he'd go for waxing 😂

Totally his choice though! I love him regardless

AnnieMore · 07/03/2023 12:38

I think hairy backs are utterly revolting, so I’d be insisting on suggesting a pre-holiday waxing.

A couple of days prior, to let any redness abate.

My dh is not very hairy, but he always gets me to epilate his shoulders and flanks before a holiday.

CalistoNoSolo · 07/03/2023 12:48

I much prefer men au naturel, but waxed or not, you need to have a word with your daughter about the body shaming. That's absolutely not OK and I hope she's a bit kinder and more thoughtful with other people.

GoldilocksIsALittleSod · 07/03/2023 13:17

What @ZeldaB said in spades!
How dare your daughter be offended by a natural body?
Rather than asking your husband to wax perhaps work on your daughter's manners!
I wax because I want to.....imagine if a man proposed his wife waxed parts of her body so she wouldn't embarrass him on holiday 🙄

Galadriel90 · 07/03/2023 13:20

I epilate DHs back before holidays. Hairy backs aren't great to look at. Luckily for me my husband doesn't like his hairy back either!

areweonabreak · 07/03/2023 13:26

My DH goes every 6-8 weeks to have his back and upper arms waxed. He's very very hairy and he personally hates it.

As long as your DH is happy to do it go for it 😀

We've also done Nair removal cream too.
