Weird thoughts that you have

This is a weird question I know but does anyone else ever have a "I'm in here" moment where you're suddenly conscious of your own consciousness and think about you basically being a brain inside your body? This probably makes no sense. Apologies if so. It's a very unsettling feeling.

What strange thoughts do you have?

I think I know what you mean. I have fleeting moments realising that me as a person and what I'm doing is real and actually happening. That I'm actually alive and it really unsettles me. I wonder what the proper name for it is, because I'd like to read up on it.

Yes I have that as well. A sudden awareness of yourself and bring alive. I think about all the processes my brain is doing. I’m full of weird thoughts!

That's exactly it! I'm so happy that at least 2 other people on MN understand what I mean. Apologies for the terrible explanation. I think that at least one language must have a word to describe it.

I can relate! Me too!

Yes! I have often wondered about this and never been sure how to explain it. I've always assumed it is some sort of inner consciousness thing - bit unsettling though! Interested to know more about it

Yeah I get this too I think... sometimes I also get it looking at my kids and kind of marvelling that they are the people they are in front of me.

Sometimes when I catch a look of my own reflection it's like I don't quite recognise myself or my life for a moment, then I feel really aware of myself actually being a person. Then I may start pondering who I am or if I am in fact real and if there is any way of even knowing, or if it even matters, or is anything even real. Before you know it I'm in full existential crisis mode 😂

that probably all made more sense in my head 😳

You've explained that beautifully!

I have this too OP. For me I have a really strong memory of first feeling this way when I was around 5 years old. Sounds bizarre but the only way I can describe the feeling at that time, was like I was just a pair of eyes looking out of my body?! It's something that has never left me and I'm in my mid forties now and when I think about it for too long it really unsettles me that ultimately, I'm just a brain in a body 😕

Mysticguru · 07/03/2023 14:16

Ahh, the perceiver, perceiving the perceived!

Enthrallingstory · 07/03/2023 14:19

Me too! Always feeling like this and in my 50's! It's quite disconcerting

SgtCatherineCawood · 07/03/2023 15:00

Another one here! I sometimes catch myself thinking I am me. This is it. And wondering what it's like to be someone else!
