My DS is married to a girl from Eastern Europe (8 years). She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It's horrendous and heartbreaking news for us all.
It's early days but as neither set of parents speak the other's language I can foresee problems arising. We have met them 3 times and get on well, obviously within the limitations of our communication. Are there any translating devices we could use simultaneously to communicate does anyone know? There may come a point when we need to advise them more and let them know what's happening...

I found the free Google translate app works fairly well.

There are options to type and transcribe then play the words aloud. Or to talk, and translate to speech.

Requires a bit of patience. Make sure everyone is aware it’s not perfect, of course. Ive had some translations that ended up causing a great deal of hilarity.

I also use deepl for writing messages. Try to keep things as simple as possible. Are you learning the language at all?

Thank you - quite new here and didn't pick this up before.
I have started on Duolingo but not sure the grammar I may be needing will cover it tbh.

We had Ukrainian students start at our school last year and we used an app called Say Hi in lessons, which worked really well. Just tap the button, speak and it repeats in the chosen language

I’m using Pimsleur and absolutely love it. It gets speaking immediately, and then builds from there. I’ve tried others and this is my favorite.
