Techie question re camera zoom

I will admit I know bugger all. I did have a Canon Sure Shot but have lost it.

I know bugger all about zoomage - what is good/bad.

Basically I need a point and shoot Digital Camera for my cruise to Norway. Whilst I do not need close ups of a lion's whiskers (not many of them in Norway apart from in zoos!). I would hate to take pics of the - well it was meant to be a castle/fiords/waterfall but is an indistinct blob!

Can anyone advise on a suitable camera. Does not have to be canon but that sort of thing. Needs to be reasonably priced too!

panasonic lumix tz70 or tz 80

these fall into the category of "travel zoom" - pocket size but with excellent and easy to use zoom

Tz80 has more features, but both are easy to use in automatic mode

They are both quite old models, I am not sure how easy they are to get new now, but second hand should be ok, and I am sure there are other similar models in th current range

For your holiday can I suggest you also get a couple of spare batteries and battery charger, available on amazon -charge up all the batteries every night, and pop two in two little purses so you don't run out of battery in the day. If you are photographing a lot, its nice to have spares .

I go out photographing all day, and the most I have ever used is 1 and a half batteries in a day, but you might get through more if the auto focus is kept on while you are not looking down the camera. It will still be using up power autofocussing.

What is your phone like?

I think phone cameras are now as good or better than many point and click cameras.
