To contribute to antibiotic resistance and risk UTI coming back?

Oh my god.
I started getting a water infection and I’ve only had one before that I left and it went to my kidneys and was horrendous.

Anyway, I wanted to be cautious so I went to out of hours Saturday night and was seen and pee tested, blood in urine was detected with ketones so was given Nitrofurantoin, doctor said it can upset my stomach and that’s normal.

But Jesus Christ she wasn’t lying - these antibiotics have made me feel dog rough. I’m on the third tablet (3 left to take) my stomach hurts, I feel nauseous and dizzy and my stomach is so upset that I unfortunately shit myself in my sleep last night 🙂

I actually felt more comfortable with the UTI than I do on these tablets. My symptoms have just about gone, no more heavy needing to pee feeling, no more urgency to pee and having proper wee’s again.

Ive always, always finished antibiotic courses because AB resistance and all that malarkey.. but I feel awful and I’m struggling to get up off the sofa and do simple thing like change the babies bum because I feel woozy.

Should I just solider on? Or stop taking them? 😫

Contact your GP and ask for different antibiotics. Also yoghurt will help restore the friendly bacteria in your gut.

Ask for something to settle your stomach. Your chemist might be able to give you something, or call your GP.

You need to get different antibiotics. There are many, many different ones you can have. I am on long term daily cefalexin for recurrent UTIs and diagnosed intercystinal cystitis. I have been on them since I was 14, I’m now 42. Occasionally I have a uti that they don’t get rid of and I get another antibiotic prescribed.

Thanks all, definitely have a kidney infection now. I’ve got 7 days of a different AB but nurse said if that doesn’t improve it in 3 days to go back as I’ll need to take something strong and probably go back on the Nitrofurantoin. Fingers crossed this shifts it!
