Interviewing for a position I really want at 09:00 - less hours, term time only and more money!

I'm suited and booted and ready - wish me luck and your best interview techniques please ☺️

Good luck. Fake it till you make it. Don't forget that they invited you to interview because they think you can do the job. They want you to succeed. Don't be afraid to pause and make sure you really understand the question.

Skulldrudgery · 06/03/2023 08:25

Good luck OP!
Try to smile, act relaxed and confident even if you’re not. Do the power posture thing if you can before you go in (Wonder Woman pose).

LilLilLi · 06/03/2023 08:26

Good luck!

They already know you could do the job, that’s why you have an interview! Go in and impress them with your incredible personality, don’t be afraid to take your time and ask them to repeat a question if needed.

You’ve got this!

CoffeeLover90 · 06/03/2023 08:27

Good luck! Sounds like a dream. I've yet to fail an interview (honestly) STAR technique. Set the scene, describe the task, action you took, the result. It helps make sure you cover everything in your answer. Sell yourself, you are an asset. Act like you've already got the job. At the end ask when is the start date, unless that's already covered in the job advert, otherwise stick with 'looking forward to hearing from you'

10Past10 · 06/03/2023 08:28

Good luck! They will be nervous too, relax and try to enjoy it. If you don't know something say so, a willingness to learn is better than bluffing it

CoffeeLover90 · 06/03/2023 08:29

Oh, if you're attending in person be very nice to the receptionist/secretary if they have one. Unbelievable how many people act above their station and it does get back to those conducting the interview. So make a very good first impression.

popcornfrenzy · 06/03/2023 08:30

Thank you everyone - loving the power pose...just done it and feel good. I took a long time over my application and can do the job and hopefully bring whatever they're looking for.

Am excited for you. Best interview technique is to be friendly and know your worth and don't overshare. Also yes be nice to the receptionist - last interview I did receptionist had to go home early and it was a Director covering front of house.

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 06/03/2023 08:36

Good luck @popcornfrenzy

Interviews are daunting but the people on the panel will want you to do well.

If you're not sure on the question, ask them to repeat or clarify. Take a breath before you answer.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/03/2023 08:43

I'm interviewing as an interviewer later this week. Remember, you're likely to have already beaten quite a number of candidates to get this far. As a recruiting manager I want to give someone the job. Don't give me a reason not to!

Take your time to formulate your answers. I mean not ages, but a few seconds to reflect won't hurt. If they offer you a drink - take it! Then have a sip whilst you think.

Then all the standard stuff - be on time, smile, be polite.

Good luck!

popcornfrenzy · 06/03/2023 19:08

Yay! I got the job - there were 4 candidates there and it went in for 3.5 hours! It was the most grueling interview I've ever had.

I think I was the youngest which almost made me wander out as it was for senior position. I'm glad I stuck around. Thank you everyone for your tips - they worked Star

Congratulations - what is the job please? What made it gruelling? I will be job hunting soon and I'm already anxious!

CoffeeLover90 · 06/03/2023 19:39

It was a senior administrator position in a school. There were admin tasks (build a spreadsheet, write a letter and prioritise a long list of things) then a panel interview of 4 people.
