Financial support for Widow

Hi all,

We have just recently lost our father. My DM doesn't have a full pension as she was self-employed. There is some money from DF's pension, but it doesn't have to be enough as my DB who lives with her - hasn't/doesn't contribute to any costs for upkeep. I will be going through the bills and setting up new contracts/DD. Is there any government support that she can apply/qualify for? I've seen things such as pension credit/bereavement support. My understanding of this area isn't great. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA

Regards

I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your father.

when I lost my Dh I found this webpage very helpful - it is clearly written and will help you navigate financial support that is available and how to do it

www.gov.uk/browse/benefits/bereavement

Age U.K. have brilliant resources for this kind of thing and have helplines that you can contact. This page sums up the possible benefits and entitlements that she could be eligible for.

What is the situation with DB, why does he not contribute to the household costs and could anything change there?

The problem is the brother.

What is his income?

She may technically be seen as his dependent now.

When checking out the government help, keep an eye on use by dates.

Also even if DM didn't qualify for a full state pension, if DF did then DM should now receive thus plus widows/survivor's benefit from any workplace pensions your DF had xx
