Car insurance query.

DSS has insured his latest car. He has 2, the second being an old Porsche boxter. Being a total eejit and not using the car often, he left it full of left over takeaways. He lives in a rural area and next thing rats have set up home in it. This was several months ago. You can't make this up! He has ADHD so it's par for the course.

Anyway, he called the insurer and looked at putting in a repair claim but decided to get the work done himself, which he did and it's fine. No more left over pizza.

The insurers records say cost £0 so it wasn't followed through. However they want to charge him an extra £250 on his renewal. They did say the zero claim would be removed but they haven't. Trying for a different company this 'claim' comes up and up goes the insurance quote.

I know you shouldn't talk to insurers unless you are actually going to claim , but is there a way around this? Can they charge him this extra for a zero claim? He has full NCD.

Very normal for an uplift despite no claim.

depends on the market and whether he has any new customer discount

Not a chance in hell btw his claim would have been accepted in a month of Sundays

Not sure what a new customer discount is?

Do you mean if he changes insurance companies?
