I only log on when I'm intentionally going to look for something. Like if there is a particular group I'm a part of or when I wanted to contact someone on messenger who I can't contact in any other way. Then I intentionally deactivate my account once I'm done every time. I don't have the app on my phone and I only use my computer to access it. Its awful to use on my browser on my phone so that helps not using it that way. I think the last time I logged in was before christmas.

Years ago I deleted almost all my friends (old school friends etc) and only added friends from my local area. Mostly only use it for groups and business purposes.

I set a limiter on my phone - its under digital wellbeing settings. And i cant spend over 40 mins a day on it.

daisypond · 04/03/2023 08:22

I only use it for groups I’m part of. I have no friends on there.

Musicsoundsbetter22 · 04/03/2023 08:25

Deleted the app. I browse now and then but have to log in on my browser. It’s full of adverts or people moaning in groups so not missing much tbh.

Bluetitnest · 04/03/2023 08:25

I was thinking of using a timer
say 20 mins and don’t look at any adverts

I admin several groups and enjoy lots more of them. I use it for marketplace too. Oh and my business pages

Orcubed · 04/03/2023 08:34

Yep, I don’t have the app and didn’t save login so have to log in on browser each time. I mostly don’t bother now as only ever seem to see adverts or groups rather than my actual friends

Deleting the app from your phone will make all the difference. Even if it's still on an iPad that you leave at home, at least it means it is not in your hands / on your person most of the day and you're not constantly checking it out of boredom.

Ive weaned myself off it. We call it Bragbook.
There's quite a lot of evidence that seeing photos of people's holidays, kids' awards, new cars, success, wealth, house extensions, Japanese gardens, graduations from Oxbridge, dinners you were not at, parties you were not at, someone's dh half naked in a tropical setting or a caravan, amazing Christmas table settings etc make us significantly less content.
Don't do it to yourself unless your 'friends' don't do that.
I still use FB messenger though. It's instagram I can't yet shake off and Im sure that's nearly as bad.
I came off mumsnet for years because I did used live here.
Social media is addictive. What could I be doing now if I wasn't writing this?

daretodenim · 04/03/2023 09:40

I deleted the app from my phone - also messenger - and only use it on my computer. I still waste a bit of time but far less than when it was with me in my phone all the time.
