Etiquette when a parcel is delivered to the wrong address?

Delivery drivers regularly deliver parcels to the wrong addresses in my development. In fairness there are several blocks but clearly numbered so it gets a bit frustrating!

So what is the etiquette when a parcel is wrongly delivered to your address? Should you pop round with it to the right address or do you wait for the addressee to come to you and pick it up?

There is no should. Either is fine.

DogInATent · 03/03/2023 15:48

How would the addressee know where to go or that a parcel had been misdelivered?

redspottedmug · 03/03/2023 15:49

Drop it round. How would they know you've got it otherwise??

Unless you're like my neighbour who goes around looking for doorstep that matches the delivery photo!!

I would pop it round. If they don't answer stick a note through saying what number you're at if you're happy for them to collect. I always try and be neighbourly, it makes for a much more relaxed existence.

WMH · 03/03/2023 15:50

It's it's been delivered to you IN ERROR, how will the correct person know where it is?

Aaron95 · 03/03/2023 15:52

If we get one for the neighbours by mistake I would pop round with it and see if they are in.

If it's gone to the wrong address, how would the adressee know where to come to collect it from?

MargaretThursday · 03/03/2023 15:53

How would they know it's at yours if it has just been delivered to the wrong address? Even if they put a picture up they're normally generic enough not to be able to identify the door.

I'd normally try and work out where it should have gone and pop round with it. If I can't work it out, then contact the company/person it came from if I can find that.

People have done the same for me-in one case with quite an expensive parcel (and yes, it was obvious from the box) delivered several miles away.

Crumpledstilstkin · 03/03/2023 16:43

In the case of our latest parcels, presumably bin it because it absolutely hasn't turned up despite knocking at the house in the delivery photos multiple times and leaving a note. Bastards. Personally I would drop it round and leave a note if they're not in saying to collect.

bonjello · 03/03/2023 16:44

They won't know you have it?!!!

Billyhargrovesmullet · 03/03/2023 16:45

Myself and another lady a few streets away often get each others parcels down to postmen not reading the address properly and drop them off for each other

SpinningFloppa · 03/03/2023 16:46

parcels for upstairs normally get left on my door step, I just put it on theirs. I wouldn’t take in one that wasn’t for me as I know when I order so not an issue for me it’s only ever things left out so I just put it on their doorstep 🤷🏻‍♀️

Poppingwatermelons · 03/03/2023 16:51

I have delivered a parcel delivered to my address the person was very grateful.

I have also had someone drive out to my house which is very rural to deliver a misdelivered parcel to me. It was a christmas gift and fairly expensive. I could not thank them enough.

soggydigestives · 03/03/2023 16:52

It can be incredibly frustrating not knowing where your parcel has gone if delivered elsewhere in error. It once took me a week to track an Amazon delivery which went to a neighbour, but didn't tell me which one. I'd take it round and be neighbourly. If on the other hand they were out and you were taking it in for them to be kind, I would ask the delivery person to put a note through to them and wait for them to collect it.

Foundryside · 03/03/2023 17:33

Pop it round to the correct address. If they’re not in then leave a note asking them to come and get their parcel from [your address].

There’s no point in just waiting for the addressee to come and get it if it’s been delivered to the wrong place in error, as they’ll have no idea where to look for it!

LlynTegid · 03/03/2023 17:50

I'd drop it round. Even if it was Hermes aka Evri.

FlounderingFruitcake · 03/03/2023 17:53

Well ideally check the label before taking it. But presuming it’s been dumped on the doorstep then of course you take it round, the correct recipient presumably has no idea where it.

JustSoTired23 · 03/03/2023 18:03

Half the time they just get an email pic so they wouldn't always know where it is.
I had one delivered to me wrong was for a mile away.
Same road name but one ' road' one 'close'
I took it up that night. And literally no thanks! The sender was an expensive shop too so they'd of been pissed off had i not returned it.
The delivery guy just had a pic on the door step. And all our houses have the same. So had i of been someone dishonest they'd never of known

jay55 · 03/03/2023 18:37

Generally the person who hasn't received it will post the picture of the door the delivery people have supplied and ask if anyone knows which building, in our local Facebook group. And then arrange pickup.

Doesn't happen often as we have a post room.

Redglitter · 03/03/2023 18:39

How on earth are they meant to know where to collect it though 🙄
