What colour for hall stairs landing?

I have a largeish hall but the stairs and landing are narrow and dark. For 20 years the carpet has been beige and the walls cream. The carpet is bald and needs replacing and I want to liven things up. What more interesting colour could I use on the walls that wouldn't be cold and/or dark?

I’d sort carpet first and go from there.

easier and cheaper to paint than to replace a carpet

i would go bold with carpet and then something like Egyptian cotton farrow and ball for walls

When I say “sort” i mean decide rather than actually install.

I really quite fancy a patterned carpet, maybe something geometric, but I obviously have no clue because they don't seem to exist, except a few in grey and beige

I'm looking into this at the moment. I have an unusually shaped hall way which makes it feel narrow, so I too don't want anything too dark.

I like:

There is an ap by dulux where you can take a photo and then try out paint colours on your wall. It doesn't have every shade but it gives you a basic idea.
