Finding out about nursery this month

We're on the waiting list for four nurseries and we should find out this month if we have a place for August. If not I can't go back to work. Anyone else going through this?

We know a childminder however she couldn't do all the hours we need

Similar position OP. We’ve just managed to get 3 days a week at a nursery for September (registered with a few providers pre birth). DH has had his flexible working request declined, so it leaves me to apply and hope that they agree to a three day week, then I’ll need to pick up agency shifts to make up the loss of earnings at weekends. We can’t find anywhere with places to even combine providers within a 10 mile radius.

It’s frightening to be honest.

I really hope you get some positive news soon OP.

Thanks @Postpartumbod , it's really stressful isn't it. Seriously considering going freelance again but it was so stressful chasing invoices before

Also currently on a waiting list for both my DC. I was working 3 days a week, now I'm looking for a new job and everything is 4/5 days a week.

I've put myself down for the other 2 days. And they are hoping to have availability for both DC on Mondays from September. But the other day I need is Wednesday which is apparently popular so who knows how long I'll wait.

Annoyingly if only one space becomes available I have to take it while I wait for the next space. So I'm likely to end up in a period where I'm paying for the day but can't work because I have the other DC at home.

ime if you keep calling especially nearer the time a space will open somewhere. Ive moved areas so have done this a few times and it's very stressful but always worked out. The squeakiest wheel does indeed get oiled first!

Thank you. I'll pester on Monday. I just don't want to be that annoying person

God almighty what a farce! Mine are older now but I feel your pain. ..but also, it makes me so cross! Why have we got this so fucking wrong !?!?!? Can you just imagine the enormous productivity boost to the economy if government funded, free, good quality, local childcare was available to all from 6 months?

Just in the other side of things....trying to get parents to understand that if they don't decide quickly, spaces will go.

I have 2 spaces coming up in September due to two little ones starting school. I've had 5 families interested. One postponed their meeting and two weeks later have got in touch to reschedule and are surprised the spaces have gone. I was also honest with the remaining 4 that I only have two spaces and it's first to confirm with a deposit would get it. Two have been swift and confirmed but the only two just took too long and genuinely don't understand that they weren't quick enough.

Doesn't matter to me, my spaces are filled but I do feel for families having trouble finding care.
