Pre TTC Checklist

We have decided to start ttc later on this year, I like lists and am trying to think of what sort of things we should think about getting sorted first.

DISCLAIMER: I am very aware that I might not even be able to get pregnant, or it might take years and I could be getting my hopes up. But on the flip side it might not take that long, and I would just like to feel slightly prepared.

P.S. Why haven’t I posted this on the conception board? I have had a little look on the conception board, and tbh I would like advice from people who have been, there, done that, have hindsight and aren’t in the throws of trying to conceive right now. What sort of things would you advise me to think about before TTC?

My list so far is...

General Health:
 Book up to date smear test.
 Book check-up and scale and polish at the dentist (get any x-rays done if needed)
 Start flossing.
 I've just started taking a conception multivitamin.
 Cut back on caffeine. I’m not giving it up, but I drink a stupid amount of caffeinated drinks atm, will slowly try to cut down to a total max of 200mg a day, so it’s not such a shock to the system when we do start trying.
 Book some regular counselling sessions.

Fitness:
 Keep on regularly exercising.
 Start weight training.
 Start doing pelvic floor exercises three times a day.

Work/Money:
 Set up a joint savings account for baby things/mat leave.
 Upskill at work.
 Do some research into what my maternity pay would be like.
 Do some research into potential career break – how long could I have off?
 Do some research into how maternity leave/potential career break will affect my pension contributions?
 Ditto about family flexible hours at my work (partner is self-employed).
 Sort life insurance.
 Sort out our wills (I know this seems morbid, but one of my parents died very suddenly when I was a child and so this is important for me to have sorted before we even start ttc).

House:
 Declutter everything!

Misc:
 Do lots of fun stuff that we can't do with a baby
 Finish using lumea hair removal thingy (pure vanity).
 Sleep

Preparing to actually TTC:
 Start tracking cycles
 Start using ovulation sticks

Have regular sex (every other day/every couple of days). It's not that complicated unless you get to the year mark with no success then speak to a doctor.

What I would say is just try to stay healthy and have regular sex. It’s easier said than done but don’t over analyse everything! Don’t get caught up with apps that will predict your ovulation.
I’d also say that not everything can be planned, spontaneous is good and it can be fun.

I didn’t sort many of the things on your list until I was pregnant or until once my baby was born.

Add don't stress and have fun to your list.

Hmm I probably didn't phrase my question very well. I wasn't looking for advice about how to get pregnant, but for advice about things that are helpful to have sorted before you get pregnant.
