Music for choirs

We are a very small group of singers (all women) and are looking for something to sing! Can anyone recommend something that sounds good for a small, all female group, not too hard, not religious and with music that can be found/bought online? Thanks!

Brighter Days by Emile Sande, O Danny Boy (traditional), Dream a Little Dream (lots of versions), Somewhere Over the Rainbow (lots of versions too!).

Have a look at musicals that you like, there’s lots that would work - also anything Disney tends to be easy enough as it’s intended for families to sing along to!

Have you considered commissioning something? Composers and lyricists would be glad of the work!

Thanks! Commissioning would be way out of our budget though!

Amateur composers are lucky if they can get their work performed at all! But there is a skill to writing music that is easy and enjoyable to perform so you might be better searching on-line.

I'm finding it hard to find arrangements just for sopranos and altos that sound good. It would be great if someone could recommend something that has worked well for them. I don't really have any experience. This is for fun but we still want to sound good!

I wasn’t actually thinking of amateur composers or lyricists, @Namechangeforthis88 ! Professionals actually enjoy this type of work.

My favourites used to be when got arrangements of various songs from a musical... I can remember doing Mamma Mia, Joseph, Sister Act and Les Miserables.

You want to be looking for arrangements for upper voice choirs. There are lots for children's choirs.

Check out other choirs on YouTube, see what they perform. Try rock/pop/soul choirs as they tend to perform pieces that are well know

I belong to a female choir singing mainly musical theatre music. Our director buys a lot of our music from music notes.com Usually SSA, but sometimes just SA. They do backing tracks as well.
