Has anyone ever managed to get a refund from Hello Fresh?

I signed up for hello fresh a few weeks ago, and have received two boxes so far. Of these 4/7 of our vegetarian meals have been substituted for chicken. The first week, I accepted a credit for next full price box, as they thought it was a packing error, and asked that it was put on my account not to substitute with meat, but this week 2/3 meals have been changed to chicken.

I've just spent an hour on chat with them, and they will only offer £10 towards next full price box, and are totally refusing a refund. To me, sending a vegetarian a meat based meal is not fit for purpose, and should warrant a refund. They are absolutely not moving on it, and won't even tell me the escalation procedure. I don't want to stick with them until I can get a full price box discounted because I don't want to keep getting meat dishes.

Has anyone had any joy getting money back from these total ball-bags or am I just banging my head against a wall??

I had issues with hello fresh and substitutions, but I live in northern Ireland and put some of it down to Brexit at the time. I had two meals substituted the first time and then all meals changed the next.

I used the chat facility and got vouchers for the first week's value and then after the second time I told them I didn't want vouchers as was cancelling the service they refunded me in cash.

My issue was I was letting my kids pick the meals and then the right ones never showed up - I'd be so annoyed if they sent meat as a vegetarian!

No to getting money back.

We had two weeks worth of meals which arrived with 2-3 key ingredients missing. Think prawn curry without prawns, baked fish without.... fish and so on. It was at a time when they had a MN rep for missing stuff, and always the expensive bit of the meal.

They offered us a small percentage refund on our next full price order only, which was never going to happen 🙄

When you choose your box, make sure you're fully confirming it - I've been caught out. I'm sure you do but I ended up with a box of random shit because I thought I'd picked but hadn't actually confirmed...

I'd no idea they were such a terrible company. None of us are precious about vegetarianism, but I honestly assumed that customer service would agree that it was an inappropriate substitution and it would be fixed without any problems. Their take was 'meat is more expensive than veg so we don't owe anything'

The first week they told me it was a packing error, and said they'd put a note on my file not to send meat. This week they're acting like I'm unreasonable to not be delighted with my box full of chicken thighs Envy

Tweet them. Lots of retailers are more responsive on social media than via customer services and live chat.

ShirleyPhallus · 01/03/2023 22:29

They’re a bloody nuisance once you’ve cancelled, I had soo many phone calls even after unsubscribing

toodumbtosum · 01/03/2023 22:45

They sent me my first box of meat instead of veggie - but they sent it before taking payment which was odd. So I cancelled the card and have refused to pay so far. They wouldn't waive the cost but as they hadn't taken the money anyway there was no way I was paying for something I can't eat.

They suck and I won't be ordering from them again.

UsernamePain · 01/03/2023 22:49

I did, took me over an hour in their live chat to get the cost of the box refunded. Same as you, they refused to provide escalation procedure, but when I asked why they were being deliberately misleading to their customers and really pushed, I got it. I won’t order from them again, awful customer service and poor quality food/ subs

MadameMatisse · 01/03/2023 22:51

That's really bad. Lots of meat eaters wouldn't even eat chicken knowing the dreadful conditions they are grown in.

Idontunderstandthesenumbers · 01/03/2023 22:53

Yes, but it took a LOT of messaging over a number of days. They kept offering me credit against future orders and couldn't understand why I didn't want to ever place an order with them again. Bunch of arseholes.

I had this and just could not get rid of them. In the end I went back into my account and amended my contact numbers (land and mobile) to ones that were incorrect. I did test them first by dialling them to check that some other poor sod wouldn’t be plagued.

Winemygoodenemy · 01/03/2023 23:10

They told me on a few occasions due to supply issues my order couldn’t be delivered. So I went out and bought a food shop. Only for my box to turn up and be charged. They couldn’t understand why I was annoyed and wanted a refund as I had bought food.

softarrows · 02/03/2023 09:25

Seems like I'm far from alone in this. I'm tempted to post the chicken back to them... possibly with a few holes in the packaging!

I paid by PayPal and pursued the refund through them instead.

Mitchumforthewin · 02/03/2023 09:37

I cannot believe they’re sending vegetarians meat and thinking it’s acceptable?!! That’s insane. I would never use them if that’s the case - that’s such appalling customer service.

Has anyone had any further success getting money back? Daughter at uni has got herself into a pickle with HelloFresh and they're being completely intractable over online chat. She's waiting for a manager to call her...
