What are the top three most expensive cities?

I just did a Google as I thought this place would be quite unique to go and maybe cheap - turns out it was in the top three most expensive cities.

Cab you guess which three without googling

Tokyo
New York
London?

New York is definitely expensive but not unique....Zurich?! Geneva? Somewhere else that's Swiss and mega money but sounds simple and cheap?

shutupheathe · 01/03/2023 15:55

Actually the top two were tied I believe from reading the article.

And yes New York is in the top 3. The one I said was unique probably isn’t, I’ve just never been there or known any family or friends that have gone but it could be really common.

Argh! From what I can remember the top one is somewhere really obscure in Africa. Hong Kong is also super expensive.

JustForThisOneTime · 01/03/2023 16:02

Singapore?

Zuffe · 01/03/2023 16:07

1st - Singapore
2nd - New York (more recently)
3rd - Toss up between a Scandinavian capital and these days Tel Aviv (gotten crazily expensive to do anything).

GCAcademic · 01/03/2023 16:07

Copenhagen

Sistanotcista · 01/03/2023 16:07

I gave up and Googled :( It's not the one I thought it was, and I was also super surprised by it!

ItsOnlyWordsInnit · 01/03/2023 16:08

Afraid I‘m not in a guessing mood so I did Google it - and it’s true that one of the top three wouldn’t have been at the top of my list.
However, there seem to be at two ‚most expensive city‘ lists circulating, and they differ hugely. I know which one you’re referring to because of the top two cities being tied. But the other list has one of those top two down at number 7, for example. So I think we can safely say that all the cities in both lists are fairly pricy places to live and visit, but the distinctions between the top few are probably fairly arbitrary.

Reykjavik?

NashvilleQueen · 01/03/2023 16:10

Seoul? Dublin?

Comedycook · 01/03/2023 16:12

Another vote for Reykjavik here

slamfightbrightlight · 01/03/2023 16:13

Hong Kong?

shutupheathe · 01/03/2023 16:24

New York, Tel Avi and Singapore

Tel Avi was where I was liking to go as I thought it might be expensive flight but cheap out there - I was definitely wrong.

Also yes Tel Avi probably isn’t unique to everyone on Mumsnet, like I said I just don’t know anyone who’s been.

Well, that was a thread killer, wasn't it....?

Give out the answer and all of a sudden the thread comes to a shuddering halt.
