Travel advice for single 30 year old

WitheringTights000 · 01/03/2023 14:48

Hi all,

I am looking for some travel advice and hope you can help.

I am single and 30 years old and looking to do some more travelling this year and to broaden my horizons!

I have been looking at travel companies that cater to single people such as exodus and flashpack!

I really fancied a trip to the USA/Canada but unfortunately I have bladder issues/chronic UTI and pee all the time and exodus said these trips involve long car journeys 😐😞

I have found one trip to Greece through flashpack which I think I'll book as no car travel....

But I really fancied the US/Canada!

Does anyone know of any companies that do planned trips to North America that doesn't involve driving?

I did see one 5 day trip to New York through a company but I can't for the life of me remember the company name and keep searching but can't find it!

So if anyone knows of any companies that even do planned trips to one particular US city I would love to hear about it!

Thank you in advance 😂

Can you do something in N America using the train?

WitheringTights000 · 01/03/2023 16:15

@BlueChampagne - yes I would love to do a trip like that! But through a company, so I was wondering if anyone had any names of companies!

Trailfinders might be worth a look?

WitheringTights000 · 01/03/2023 17:37

@BlueChampagne -

Having a look now! Looks great! Do you know on average what age the people are on these trips?

Wouldn't want to go if they are all a lot older than me!

Another company to look at is intrepid travel. I did two amazing tours with this company 1 Russia to china and Beijing down to Hong Kong.

Both trips were train based.

Really wide range of ages on both trips - just graduated upto just retired

lifehappens12 · 01/03/2023 18:40

And I had a friend use flashpack who now has a regular group of friends she travels with now most years

AffIt · 01/03/2023 18:49

A single friend of mine (slightly older than you at 36) has gone on loads of trips with Intrepid and really rates them.

WitheringTights000 · 01/03/2023 19:00

@lifehappens12 -

I will have a look! I am really hoping to do USA or Canada but I'll make sure to check the age ranges!

There is a Greece one I am very tempted to book through Flashpack!

@AffIt - brilliant! What type of trips has she gone on? I have to avoid road trips ☹️

@WitheringTights000 I think she's done a good few in Europe and Central / Southern America - she likes hiking, so the adventure packages have been good for her.

I would imagine the issue with anything in North America is the amount of distance you have to cover because EVERYWHERE is a long way away, so you'd have to look into rail transport if you can't manage long distances by car.

Alternatively, base yourself somewhere central with easy access to interesting places within walking / cycling distance, like Banff in Canada? Lots of lovely countryside and relatively cheap outwith the skiing season.

WitheringTights000 · 01/03/2023 20:25

@AffIt - those walking ones would be out for me due to lack of bathroom access 😐....

I know....the issue is with USA being so vast it requires either road or train travel!

There are some USA train ones that look great but not sure it would all be retired folk 😕

You mentioned a 5 day trip to New York, is this one any help?

www.titantravel.co.uk/holidays/new-york-new-york-the-city-that-never-sleeps-tour

It's pricy, but then again it includes flights, meals, hotels, and tours, so overall not bad.

I wouldn't worry about the age profile. There will be so much to see and do you will not feel out of place with people older than you at all. You also have free time to do your own thing. I think older people add a lot to the mix, and they love the energy of the younger ones too!

Give it a whirl, do the trip and then you will know whether the format suits you or not. Doesn't matter if you'd prefer a different crowd, you will have seen New York either way!

BlueChampagne · 02/03/2023 16:39

We used Trailfinders for a trip to South Africa in our early 30s, if that helps.

WitheringTights000 · 02/03/2023 19:23

@PillBoxes - thank you 😊 I think it seems like it isn't for solo travellers though?

@BlueChampagne - great! I've been looking at their website and there is so much! Did you find it was all couples etc or plenty of singles also?

As an aside OP I really hope your bladder issues are being taken seriously by the NHS as they are impacting your life. Please insist on a referral if you haven't already.

Bobbybobbins · 02/03/2023 19:59

Intrepid trips are amazing

DisplayPurposesOnly · 02/03/2023 20:03

How about doing your own trip to USA and or Canada? Then you are in charge of your own travel and loo breaks.

WitheringTights000 · 02/03/2023 20:20

@Choconut - sadly it has never been taken seriously by the NHS. I have always had to go privately. They haven't been much help either but I am going to another private consultant at the end of April and hoping they can maybe do something!

@Bobbybobbins - yes they look great!

@DisplayPurposesOnly - I have considered that but then I would like to meet people so thought it would be easier if it's an organised trip!

I’m 30 and I mostly do solo trips by myself but when I need to do a tour I use traveltalk tours.

BlueChampagne · 03/03/2023 09:34

I'm afraid it was years ago so I can't really remember! Things may have changed in the interim.
