I'm just waiting for the doctor to phone me to confirm whether I need IV antibiotics. Does anyone know how long I will be in hospital for if it happens?

Having very recently been through this myself;
you may not have to stay in hospital at all.
A Dr tried getting me straight into a ward, but was unable so I had to go the A&E route. There was no immediate action to get me onto a ward whatsoever & they began IV Antibiotics in the waiting room & talked to me about sending me home with much stronger medication than I'd been previously prescribed ... however in my case they took bloods from me which revealed a more serious concern where I was an inpatient for 3 days.

Ds needed some and was allowed to come and go when each dose was due. This meant some super late trips to the hospital but worth it. You

IV antibiotics can be given for different lengths. From 1 day to months. It all depends on how you respond to them . They will do blood test to check your CRP which is a blood test that indicates the level of infection in your body. If it increases they may change the antibiotics your on if the level reduces enough they may send you home on oral antibiotics. They may seek advice from microbiolist too
