help - dishwasher won't shut

Is this a thing? Obviously I took everything out in case it was a stacking issue but even empty it won't shut. Seems like the latch thing at the top. It will come on if held shut. Is there anything I can do? Really can't stretch to a new one now..

Can you get someone out to look at it? Is it still under warranty?

Can you google the make and model? DH does this when bits fail on our appliances. Putting in the above for our cooker revealed that the hinges are the number one part to fail on it, he was able to buy replacement bits on eBay and fix it himself. Same with the fan in the oven and the door latch on our microwave.

You might not be able to do the repair yourself, but if you have the bits and know someone handy...

It's probably easy to replace. Try googling.

As a temporary hack push something heavy like a chair against the door while it runs.

If you can't replace the latch you may be able to make a makeshift solution such as adding a slide bolt on the outside.

e.g. google "Replace door latch Bosch B56745"

Thanks all - currently got ds2 sitting with his feet against it while on his phone, taking a break from online learning (strike day). He's happy as larry, but not a long-term solution I feel.

We changed the latch on ours. It was a bit fiddly in places, but not hard. Be about a tenner, I expect.

ESpares even has little videos showing you how. Get DS to watch while he's holding the door closed!

stepfordwifey · 01/03/2023 18:56

We have to push the top basket down a bit before we close the door. That was preventing the door from closing properly and it wouldn't start. Try that to see if it helps.

Lovestodrinkmilk · 01/03/2023 18:59

Occasionally we have somehow activated the childproof lock and then it won't close. IIRC the actual proper solution is just to slam it shut.

enjoyingscience · 01/03/2023 18:59

Does it feel like it wants to pop open? There might be plastic caps on the end of the top tray that open - prevents it from going all the way back in. If you take out both racks does it shut then?
