Hi,

I need some stitches removed in UK after having surgery abroad.
Does anyone have any advice on what is the best way to go about this?
Should I just call my GP and make an appointment??

Thanks in advance.

Was it emergency surgery, or planned surgery?

I had planned surgery and was told by the hospital to call gp surgery to have a sound check (thankfully I had glue)

I was told they couldn't as they had no curse available so I had to call the hospital back.

Nurse at the GP has always taken mine out ( or my daughter)

How many stitches? I've always taken my own (and my son's ) out myself - as long as I'm happy with the wound.

Assuming you are registered with a GP, I'd start with them. They'll tell you if they can do it. I'm guessing the other option is private?

I am wondering if my husband could do it. What sort of scissors did you use to snip the knot?

Ask for an appointment with the Practice Nurse at your GP surgery, they are the wound care specialists. Most post surgery sutures need 7-10 days in situ, depending on where they are/type of suture/etc., the PN should be able to advise.

Of course, if you really want him to. Get on google! Good sharp scissors and tweezers.

Although personally I'd prefer a medical pro to look and check everything is ok.
