UK Aurora Borealis viewing tips

Hi,

Don't know if anyone in central Midlands has been able to see the aurora?

If so, what is the best time? Presumably cloudy/wet won't work (which is what we get mostly).

Any tips would be appreciated.

Firstly download the Aurora Watch app and set notifications to come through when there is a red alert.

No tips for viewing unfortunately.

Download one of the apps as mentioned above but you maybe need to be aware that the major Auroral events/storms such as reported earlier in the week last a few hours, generally not days, and often the actual peak in activity with all the colours and possibly movement may only last a few minutes, it varies.

Just to manage expectations I'd say I'd be very surprised if the events of Monday carried on with anything like the same intensity into Wednesday night but it's often simply a case of ignoring the predictions and going out and looking anyway.

One tip I will offer: to maximise your chances of seeing anything you need to go somewhere with a completely dark northern horizon... any glow at all from towns/cities to the north will swamp anything but the brightest displays.

Good Luck

I read it was meant to be around midnight. Didn't look first night and two cloudy last two. I know of someone who went up Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh first night and didn't see a thing, yet reported down south.
