So i entered an online competition to win a flight home to see my mum and i got an email saying they want to talk to me !! but because of the time difference i have to wait until UK office times ARGHH i am freaking out. i had a bit of a cry as my brother died last year around now, so i know my mum will be feeling blue. So i am sooo hoping it is all true. has anyone heard of welcometofrank.com or www.redletterdays.co.uk?

I would really love you to win and get to see your mum soon. If they would pay for your flight (from wherever abroad?) might they not just cough up for a limo to bring your mother into Central London and then back home again after the filming?

Karwomannghia · 01/03/2023 07:50

Really hope this works out for you!

When I was 18 I won't a holiday and they called me and told me so it does happen .

Mine was from a card on a counter in a shop!

Pinkdelight3 · 01/03/2023 08:09

It's a lovely thought on the one hand, but on the other, more than the travel to London, it does sound like there'll be a fair amount of marketing and promotional stuff to be involved in that might not feel right when your mum's grieving. It'd be one thing for you to be seeing her, that's the lovely bit, but to be filmed and most likely have to tell your story on camera feels less lovely. Nothing comes for free. But maybe they'll be understanding and sensitive. Good luck with it and I hope you get to see your mum soon either way. (I don't particularly think it's a scam btw but good that you're cautious and act accordingly).

FeinCuroxiVooz · 01/03/2023 08:09

ah so their "competition" is about finding some heartwarming real-life stories to use for their advertising and promotion. It sounds reasonably legit but be very cautious - Your mum's health and wellbeing could be adversely affected by the travel, the photoshoot and the publication of whatever creative content they decide to run with after this shenanigans. check very carefully what's being asked and what the impact might be. is there going to be imposition of makeup and stylists for this photoshoot? if they pay for your flight and then when you land your mum is unwell and can't cope with the additional pressure are they going to have smallprint that lands a massive bill on you?

on some flights the actual ticket cost is very low but there's a lot more charges in additional taxes, fees for bringing any kind of luggage, etc, so check what's included and what you will be expected to top up.

thymee · 01/03/2023 08:13

I've heard of red letter days and have used them, all good.

However, don't give them any personal details until you've verified that this is real and certainly don't give them any money, no matter what they say it's for.

MichelleScarn · 01/03/2023 08:16

Hope you get your reunion @simplemoments!!

MySugarBabyLove · 01/03/2023 08:22

Did they tell you about the promotional bit before or after you entered the competition?

the companies involved here are legit, but I would check the small print with a fine tooth comb.

there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

ClairDeLaLune · 01/03/2023 09:02

Ooooh good luck OP! Hope it’s true 🤞

diddl · 01/03/2023 09:09

Can’t you get a cousin or a friend or anyone to meet you so they get their photo and you get your visit?

simplemoments · 01/03/2023 09:39

@MySugarBabyLove i think they want to fly someone in and do the whole shebang. I had a good look at the terms and conditions and it seems that they need some one who can do the whole london thing for i guess a day? So we will be bumped off the list and the next person will be contacted. ahh well nice day dream while it lasted.

When they ring you, advise them you will call them back on a phone number on their website.

Ensure it's a secure website and genuine.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 01/03/2023 09:58

oh bless you OP, it's a shame you can't use this but I agree your mum's needs have to come first, being filmed at such a vulnerable time might be too much for her, I personally wouldn't want to be filmed and shown in public reuniting either. Hope you find a way to make it home soon.

ChampagneCommunist · 01/03/2023 10:14

Offer Brighton as an alternative location; it's just as good as a file/photography location

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 01/03/2023 10:28

I bet if you speak to them they will be able to work with you on this. I won a trip to Sydney once ( I am in Australia). I was able to adjust the trip to take my husband and son, and stay for an extra few days (at my expense). They were just happy to get their story and photoshoot.

But it’s the story and photoshoot which are the issue here.

This is a year on from the OP’s brother’s death, clearly it’s a significant anniversary for them, and this company are going to want to use that experience for their own gain. To show how wonderful they are by being able to unite this family in rememberence of their grief.

If it was just a “I won a competition” type photoshoot then that would be one thing. But IMO the price to pay here is far too high.
