What should I make my guest?

My husband and I invited our neighbour over for dinner. I'm not sure what to make.

I was thinking of making Moroccan olive chicken and fries. Is that okay?

What should I make as a side?

Should I make a dessert?

Not used to hosting

Thank you

Olives are one of those marmite foods....maybe less olives and add apricots ?
Add a simple salad too

Pudding ...you could do fresh fruit and chocolates platter ..simple

Sounds lovely a warm welcome and hospitality is as important as the food.

Why not have Couscous with Roasted Vegetables, Chick Peas, and Almonds with the chicken?

Pitta breads warm from the oven and a few dips and an easy dessert like meringue with passion fruit for pud. Use any fruit you have though.

don’t overthink it and overwhelm yourself.

How about making the chicken into a tagine type dish so still Moroccan and then guests can dish up as much or as little as they want...then you can do side dishes like cous cous bread salad etc if we have guest over I always like to have something they can choose over how much or how little they want and you don't have to worry about portion sizes
Deffo a pudding something simple like Berries and ice cream and then perhaps different chocolate or caramel sauces so they can make an ice cream sundae!

I'd check if they like olives as @Lulu1919 said, a lot of people don't!

I'd check with them first for anything to avoid, (meat/wheat/seafood etc)
I'd also avoid anything too 'out there' and stick to safe dishes you know most people like. BBC online is great for crowd pleasers!

Anything like a sticky toffee pudding with cream/ice cream or a chocolate pudding usually goes down well. Or meringues with cream and fruit.
