Ankle injury - 8 year old

Posting here for traffic mostly.

My daughter (aged 8) tripped and twisted her ankle walking home from school today. She fell over completely and was crying out in pain. She couldn't weight bare and had to hop the rest of the way.

We have put ice on it and have some calpol. It's been about half an hour since the meds now and she's still saying it hurts when rotating her ankle and moving her toes.

I'm not one to rush off to the hospital quickly but I'm wondering how long I should leave it before getting it assessed?

Thanks

If she’s sprained it, it will hurt for days at least, sometimes weeks.
If you are at all concerned it’s more than that then you will need to take her to A& E.

Id go to A&E, still so difficult to express yourself at that age or compare it to other injuries.

Paracetamol can take upto 90mins to work. Have you got any ibuprofen that’s better for soft tissue injuries. Keep going with ice and elevation. Depends on how she is but an afternoon/evening on the sofa with regular pain relief as needed. If no better in the morning then maybe head to MIU

I wouldn't worry too much. Common injury. My kids did the same. Just attend overnight with pain relief. If it seems much worse after 24 hours call 911.

Thank you all.

I'll keep an eye on her overnight
