What virus is this?

I think we got it from our DC. DH and I have had the exact same symptoms, which are:

  • started feeling very cold, shivering, freezing cold hands
  • very sore throat - it feels like we have lumps in our throats causing daggers. But isn't tender to touch.
  • ears hurt, mine feel itchy from the pressure
  • almost like an indigestion type pain in chest
  • a very dry barking cough that's not productive
  • nausea and slight upset tummy (DC had mild D&V)
  • no snottiness but feel like sinuses are building in pressure
  • no temperate either but we alternate between chills and feeling very hot. DC had a fever.

We've been like this for 6 days, neither of us have had any usual cold like symptoms, & no signs of getting any better so far

Tested negative for covid. Sort of feels like covid though- in that's it's not a typical cold, that goes through the typical cold cycle.

Anyone else had this? It doesn't feel like anything we've had before and we've had back to back colds for months.

Not worried - just interested. Just seems to be so many things about at the moment.

Anyone else had similar??

Could be flu. As in actual influenza. The very sore throat is typical of flu and the chest pain could be from coughing. Flu typically doesn’t give you snotty cold symptoms.

Flu. I had it over Christmas and spent almost three weeks feeling like I could quite happily die just to get a bit of relief from it Blush

I think it's a flu virus, I have had all the symptoms you're stating. Be warned it has just taken me 3 weeks to get over it.

Flu and RSV incidence are low right now compared to COVID which has 1.2million cases and growing according to Zoe app. How often did you test for COVID? Did you swab your inner cheeks and back of your throat as well as your nostril? I'd assume it's COVID.

Reports from places where PCR tests are still more easily available alongside the LFTs say that the PCRs are more sensitive at picking up lower levels of Covid. Older LFTs are becoming less reliable on newer variants. The indigestion/chest element is what would make me think Covid; it was what I would least want to repeat from the 2020 version, and lasted over 2 weeks. Worse when lying down.

How many times have you tested for Covid? I felt the way you've described 2 days before testing positive. I was negative to begin with and couldn't understand why I was feeling this way

I hope you feel better soon it was absolutely shit and I didn't get my energy back for a fortnight xx
