How long can I leave a tooth broken?

My tooth has been broken (chipped at the corner and the chipped part is still in my gum attached) for a few weeks now. I am meant to see my dentist next week but I am really going to struggle to afford it this coming month.

I was initially in pain for a few days (more an ache than agony!) and again had a bit of aching last week when I chewed on that side. It isn't bothering me otherwise.

How long can I leave it like this?

I had a broken molar for about a year before it gave me real hassle. It was broken below the gum line, but when it did cause trouble it gave me a massive abscess, my face doubled in size and I had to have it extracted as an emergency on holiday, with two courses of antibiotics. I don't recommend leaving it too long.

I had to leave one during covid as nobody would see me but I wouldn’t recommend it. It can turn dangerous quickly.

Looks like I'll have to use my credit card then :( mine is the molar - my dentist charges £100 for a check up, god knows how much treatment will be on top! No NHS dentists available in my area.

If you’re having to use private has you tried shopping around?

The prides do vary and a lot of them offer payment plans now too.

Yes, this one seems the cheapest - a few were nearly £200 for a new patient check!

My previous NHS dentist is now private only.

I am hoping they will offer a payment plan, depending on the total cost.
