Does Your Library Celebrate World Book Day?

Mine doesn't do anything to mark the occasion, which to me seems a bit odd as it's right next to a primary school.

It just seems a lost opportunity to get more children in and borrowing books. I looked online and it seems none of the libraries are doing anything across the whole county.

World Book Day is about schools and bookshops rather than libraries though - there are separate events for libraries.

I work in book publishing and libraries are massively important but they get other moments during the year.

Oh, OK. I thought it was just about promoting reading in general.

I run our village library. We are open in the afternoon on World Book Day, so I am putting out some activities (trail, puzzles etc) & offering prizes for best costumes (& a sticker/sweet for every costume). Refreshments are currently available for free anyway as part of our Warm Welcomes scheme. will publicise this on school social media, with their blessing, as well as our own SM.

It is not officially anything to do with libraries, but it seems to me that an occasion that celebrates books cannot go unmarked! And hopefully it will increase our footfall 😁

That's sounds great Mortified2023 - I'm sure the children will love it.

It still seems weird to me how there can be a World Book Day that doesn't involve libraries.

Libraries always used to do World Book Day - but they have been cut back so much and the staffing reduced to such a basic survival level that most probably don't have anyone to run activities nowadays.
