World Book Day adult costume ideas

NeverendingStory32 · 26/02/2023 20:49

I'm a primary school teacher and I haven't needed to dress up for World Book Day for a few years because of covid, then maternity leave, then going part time. This year however, I'll be teaching that day and need a super easy costume. Any ideas please? Thank you

I'm going as Gangsta Granny! I've reluctantly ordered a wig/eye mask off Amazon and will find a horrendous skirt in a charity shop teamed with cardi and a string of beads.

Gloves, wig, make up round your nostrils to make them look bigger - the witches.

Sophie’s mum from The Tiger Who Came to Tea? I can’t remember what she’s wearing 🤔

I'm going as the Evil Pea, our other TA as broccoli, and our teacher as Supertato.

Green jeans & jumper for me, and a red cape I made years ago. Same for my friend but with a broccoli hat I'm currently crocheting, and I think our teacher was going with flesh coloured-ish top, superhero cape & mask, and probably diy 'S' for her belt.

Miss Trunchbull. Grey sweatshirt, belt, dark trousers, lace up boots, hair tied in a bun.

My DC’s teacher bought a gorilla suit and wears that every year. It’s actually genius- she can take it off at the end of the day to go collect her own kids while her colleagues are stuck with Smurf face paint or whatever on the bus home

The cat in the hat? Black trousers, white shirt, black cardi, make a big red bow tie , make a card board top hat (v easy) and use red and white tape to do the stripes or paint it.

whereaw · 26/02/2023 21:32

Saucepan man! Saw this on Pinterest.. Big one for a hat (a colander wrapped in silver foil so it's not too heavy) and little ones tied with string, you can make mini ones with mini aluminium bowls and popsicle sticks covered in foil. And a couple of real ones to carry

AwfulTed · 26/02/2023 21:33

Old mother Hubbard? Or any other nursery rhyme character who just needs an apron? Something linked to your current topic- I’m going as the bad tempered ladybird
or a tiger onesie for tiger who came to tea if you have/can borrow one

What age class do you teach?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 26/02/2023 21:35

Fancy dress, big fluffy ginger cat teddy from Amazon and go as Mrs Coulter from HDM?

mummyh2016 · 26/02/2023 21:35

Hermione from Harry Potter? Black gown or cape (even a bin bag like we used to be sent trick or treating in as kids!) with a wand.
A few at nursery dressed up as Matilda a couple of years ago, blue dress with a red ribbon in their hair.

The easiest one I ever saw a colleague do was a plain white tshirt and words written on it along with their definitions.

Easy peasy dictionary outfit.

Either that or a plain coloured tshirt and a homemade headband featuring a print off of a Mr men/Little miss character to match the colour of the tshirt e.g blue is Mr bump, pink is little miss chatterbox green is Mr nosey.

SpringIntoChaos · 26/02/2023 21:45

I'm going as The Golden Ticket (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Cardboard tabard spray painted gold with black sharpie words on the front. Wearing black trousers and a black long sleeved t-shirt under, so no embarrassment when I fill the car up with petrol or pop into Tesco on the way home. Unlike the year I went as Princess Fiona 🤦‍♀️

Trousers and top of the same colour topped with a cone shaped party hat of the same colour - you're a crayon from The Day the Crayons Quit.

Or a plain white T with quotes from The Book with No Pictures written on it in Sharpie.

Blue clothes and loo roll wrapped around you - Mr Bump.

Sadly I love WBD!

BlackeyedSusan · 26/02/2023 23:05

Each peach pear plum...(cardboard cut outs sewn on)
I spy Tom thumb...(dolls house doll)

Mog and Meg? (Either or both)

Several teachers at my DC’s school did this one year, each one a different colour!
