Do you have random freezer dinners?

I'm having one tonight. A vegan M&S Kyiv, a few Halloumi fries from Lidl, M&S vegetable rice and I'm roasting peppers and onions. I have half some BBQ cauliflower bites too but I doubt that I'll be able to fit those in too, tempted as I am, just to make space.

I like to empty the freezer now and again so it usually involves eating some random combinations.

Do you do the same?

That’s what’s happening here tonight - ‘freezer special’.

Rebootnecessary · 26/02/2023 16:32

We do 'freezer roulette' with all the unlabelled boxes of leftovers.

SantanaBinLorry · 26/02/2023 16:33

We call it 'If It's'
If it's in the freezer we're eating it 😁

3 times a year for a month! 😄

Expats in a country with iffy electrics, so we empty the freezer each term as we travel in the hols.

Grocery savings = travel spends.

Frequently. My freezer is constantly stuffed full, but the items in it may not pair up well. So I find myself with a lot of parsnips, some chips, mash, sweetcorn and half a packet of fish fingers. 🤷🏻‍♀️And a lot of frozen fruit for all those protein shakes I keep promising myself.

Hahaha that sounds fun.

Yes OP. Freezer meals - we have one planned for tomoddow so someone gets a Kiev someone gets fish and then there's a waffle each and croquettes if we have any then lidl did "calamari" a few months ago so I'll fry some of that up. Then there's just a mix of the ends of vegetable packets.

TheNoodlesIncident · 26/02/2023 16:38

We call this "freezer grab". Last night I had a mix of oven stuff like duck spring rolls, vegetable ones, mini kyivs, dim sum, some spinach and squash croquettes. All easy to spear with a fork too.

It clears freezer space of leftovers and is great when you just CBA.

Freezer tapas is one of my favourite lazy meals!

GrilledCheeseTomatoSoup · 26/02/2023 16:44

Yes, if DH is in the office and it's just me and the DC we eat freezer surprise!

Mindymomo · 26/02/2023 16:46

We have SFF days, something from freezer. Can be anything fish fingers, sausages, chips.

Rummikub · 26/02/2023 16:52

Freezer surprise here too.
though I’ve made rice instead of pasta as couldn’t identify what it was till too late.

ColinTheCorgi · 26/02/2023 17:02

We have freezer surprise last night.
Chicken goujons
Mozzarella sticks
Veg spring rolls
Oven chips

We had nothing fresh and I couldn't be arsed going out.

louderthan · 26/02/2023 17:03

Chicken nuggets, potato product (waffles, hash browns etc) and either peas or baked beans.
Often with random addition like frozen cauliflower 'wings' or halloumi fritter things.

WeeM · 26/02/2023 17:04

I love doing this, sometimes I even just make myself a plate of oven chips and just eat them on their own!

TerrifiedandWorried · 26/02/2023 17:06

DD and I once had the sublime experience of garlic bread slices with baked beans and grated cheese. It was so yum.

SquigglePigs · 26/02/2023 17:13

Yep, we'll probably be doing that tonight. When odds and ends have accumulated. We've got mini kievs, scampi, tempura prawns and corned beef crisp bakes that need eating up.

Greenbeanmcgee · 26/02/2023 17:19

Feel free to weep at its beauty.

I'm loving all of these fancy names for it. I need to come up with one too.

I need to try this. It sounds amazing.

Yep, also random freezer puddings.

We dice up any fruit about to go bad and freeze it, just add to the relevant tub (stone fruit, apples/pears, berries).

Also freeze pastry, crumble topping and cookie dough rolled into balls so they can just be put on a tray and straight into the oven to cook from frozen. I just double the recipe whenever I do make it so half for that day and half for the freezer.

Today we have stone fruit crumble which will have plum, nectarine and peach pieces in.

Main course is fish fingers, chilli cheese bites and a mix of peas and sweetcorn because both bags are nearly finished.
