What tablet? Did it do anything?

Aura is just a part of the migraine, how is it presenting for you?

rubyslippers · 26/02/2023 13:50

With aura you need to lay down in a dark room and not look at a screen etc - I get migraines with visual disturbance and this is what works for me
it should pass
Drink coke if you have it

helpyhelperton · 26/02/2023 13:51

I get pain in temple and limo at back of neck, I woke up with pain at 5am took a sumatiroautn it went. Came back in at 11 took about sumpatriaoy it went again. 50 mgs. No pain now or 'feeling of migraine' just the cut glas crystal slashing over one eye which is spreading

Drink some water, but not too cold, lay down in a dark room.

Check your BP as well.

Flashing has stopped

You can take up to 300mg of sumatriptan in 24hrs, if a new attack has started take another one.

Isheabastard · 26/02/2023 13:56

I use a cold wet flannel over my eyes and a cold pack on the back of my neck.

Depending on what the pill you’ve take is, my doctor recommended 2 dissolvable solpadeine at first sign. I always got the aura first followed about 20 mins later by the pain.

I tried quite a few prescription migraine medications but none of them worked.

I hope it gets better soon.

JuneOsborne · 26/02/2023 13:57

Drink a red coke. Something to do with constricting blood vessels which helps.

Dark room, cool flannel, plenty of fluids and rest.

I really hate the aura. It will pass, usually takes about 15/20 minutes for me. But then I'm drained and feel like shit, so I try to sleep it off.

helpyhelperton · 26/02/2023 13:57

I'm just wondering if this is a post migraine aura. I take so many sumatriptan I don't want to take any unnecessarily. Maybe I should not take one and see...then I'd know if this happens again,

OP posts:
Sandsnake · 26/02/2023 13:59

If you can then go to sleep in a dark room, often he only way to get rid of them. Hope it clears soon, they’re the pits 😬

doadeer · 26/02/2023 14:04

How many sumitripan do you take?

I've just seen a neurologist as I was 4x over the recommended dose and they started to have the opposite effect.

How often are you having migraines?

helpyhelperton · 26/02/2023 14:09

I'm definitely on the cusp of overuse. Apparently 10 days per month of towing them is too much (even if you take several in the day). I cannot love without sumaoturotsn - I do try to go cold Turkey sometimes and some mornths are better than others. Period and mid cycle is always bad. Laying in, drinking, heating on at night and tight clothing gives me one too.

I'm taking magnesium, have tried several preventers and take vitamins geared towards helping hormonal inbwlance.

Don't know if any work. I've had them for 23 years and never really any better or worse.....

OP posts:
doadeer · 26/02/2023 14:12

The neurologist told me there's evidence that more than 4-6 tablets a month is likely to increase your headaches. For.me this is the case, I've had such a pressure in my head last week. I've just had 4 awful days of going cold turkey on sumitripan as they were only thing that helped me. I'm trying a beta blocker daily to reduce the amount of adrenaline I produce. When was the last time you were at the doctors?

SimplySipping · 26/02/2023 14:25

this sounds horrendous.

You've probably tried this already but aspirin is my saviour, I've practically stopped taking sumatriptan since I've rediscovered it. Can't believe I spent so many years battling through with paracetamol, migraleve and triptans.

helpyhelperton · 26/02/2023 14:36

I will try aspirin again, what's the formula? 2 tablets with water/coke?

OP posts:
RedCarsGoFaster · 26/02/2023 14:47

@helpyhelperton aspirin is a 900mg dose - usually three of the larger tablets. A can of full fat coke is useful for the caffeine and sugar. If you don't have any, a coffee or tea with sugar will do the same thing.

My GP said max dose (which is usually 900mg) and a can of properly cold red coke.

Mumofthreeandadog · 26/02/2023 15:15

My mum used to get horrific hormonal migraine for years and years m. Took all sorts of medication and then a friend persuaded her to try acupuncture. She was very skeptical but it worked amazingly well for her. Might be worth a try.

LookItsMeAgain · 26/02/2023 15:17

If you get them often, I'd recommend getting one of these:
migracap.com/

Something that is cold against your head and that if you pull it down over your eyes, blocks out the light so that you can get some rest.

Migraines are a bitch!

I had this - didn't make any difference, sadly.

Thanks for all the replies and the help. Much appreciated - I can feel the migraine coming back on so taken another sumatriptan - I'm going to get some aspirin in and full fat coke for the next one.

OP posts:
SimplySipping · 26/02/2023 16:12

I hope you feel better soon x

JuneOsborne · 26/02/2023 16:16

You said you'd tried preventers: topirimate was great for me, but it's a slog to get through the side effects phase.
