Garden birdwatching

For anyone who enjoys taking part in the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch: you might be interested in the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) Garden Birdwatch project. It involves recording all the birds you spot in your garden each week Sun - Sat and then inputting the week's findings online. I find it more satisfying than the RSPB one hour count, when inevitably all the most unusual birds go into hiding and miss the count! We discovered it recently and find it less intensive as you can just keep recording what you see whenever you tend to look out at the garden.

Here's the link: www.bto.org/our-science/projects/gbwGarden

The website is really interesting with lots of other nature projects going on too.

That sounds really good. Sadly the link doesn't work @Olinguito

Oh sorry - I'll have another go at the link!

I'm so glad that wasn't just me. We get jays in our garden but the little blighters went in to hiding that weekend and all I got to report waas pigeons and parakeets.

Sounds interesting. We get quite a few birds in our garden; the other week we had a sparrowhawk and yes, when we did the rspb thing, all we had were starlings!

I agree, it's awesome and we've done it for years. The BTO makes a significant scientific contribution too.
