What small gestures mean a lot to you?

Just wondering what small gestures mean a lot to you - that make you think someone cares for you.

Whenever I am out and coming home after dark, DP turns the outside light on for when I pull up. It's such a small thing but makes me feel cared for and that he is wanting me to get in safely.

😊

That’s lovely, my DH does the same. Also if I text him to say I’m leaving for home (whether dark or light), he will go outside and open the gate for me so I can drive straight through and on to our drive without needing to stop and get out of the car. I have never asked him to but he always does.

MySweetBaboo · 26/02/2023 06:51

My 13 year old daughter makes me a cup of tea and brings it to my bedroom every week day morning, I’ve never asked her to do this. 😊

LetThemEatTurnips · 26/02/2023 06:54

My DH does a lot of cooking and he thinks what we would like over than what he wants to make. He'll do the kids' favourites when they come to visit, or do really easy/comforting things if he knows someone has had a bad day, that sort of thing. Plus he takes requests.

My ds(15) giving me a hug.

My boss sending me some Jo Malone, at that point in chemo when I'd just started to feel sorry for myself.

ILiveAt64ZooLane · 26/02/2023 07:00

When DH de-ices my car.
I leave at 7:30 and he doesn’t go to work until lunchtime so he doesn’t have to do it and I’ve never asked him to do it either.

MangoPineapple11 · 26/02/2023 07:04

These are all so lovely - it really is the small things in life 😌

My husband brings me up a cup of tea and then does the first bit of the morning with the dc so I can stay in bed for an extra 20 minute or so.

I sleep really lightly and often wake up two or three times during the night so this is a wonderful treat.

Also, I've had a bit of a sore back recently and my dd6 will give it a little rub if she sees me flinch.

chartreuseabuse · 26/02/2023 07:07

My husband brings me tea when he comes to bed (always later then me, we have a little one, I'm shattered, he's a night bird). Sometimes I wake up and have it hot, sometimes I drink it cold (camomile) when I find it. I love my cold tea. 😊 I miss it when he's away.

I live alone. I live 20 min drive from work, most of which is unlit winding rural roads, and I always finish at 10pm so it's dark. My colleagues are all 5 mins or less from work.

It always means a lot when a colleague says "safe drive home" or similar. If weather is bad I'll often be asked by a colleague to let them know when I get home. Means a lot because if something did happen on my journey home chances are I wouldn't be found until the next day.

Its only 2 or 3 colleagues that will say it, and not every night, but it means a lot.

I can't really think of anything that anyone does for me. The kids (22/17) occasionally empty the dishwasher or offer to cook. H will very, very occasionally buy me flowers but that happens less and less now, so I buy my own!
It's more me doing little things for everyone else!

In my experience the hugs only get better. DS21 gives the best hugs and doesn’t complain when I hold on just a little bit too long because I know he’s going back up north.

Every now and then I just fancy a gin & tonic. And every time I say "oh bugger, there's no ice in the freezer" because I never remember to refill the ice tray. And every time I check, I find DH has already done it. This is why I can never leave him 😁

ILiveAt64ZooLane · 26/02/2023 07:33

I get a random Freddo through the internal mail from a friend I used to work with. We’re in different parts of the county still with the same company. They always seem to appear at the right time. Every now and again I’ll send her some giant buttons.

SouthCountryGirl · 26/02/2023 07:36

People use their time on Saturday and Thursday to run with me instead of doing their own thing. +visually impaired and need another person to run with)

Lovely thread

CatMattress · 26/02/2023 07:37

I'm cyrene but very well and yesterday my 11 year old had been cuddling with me. When he got up he disturbed the blanket over me, he was halfway out of the room wren he turned back, ticked the blanket back over my feet and said "don't want you getting chilly toes". <3

DP does so many of these things that is hard to pick just one, but he took a special trip out to get extra vitamin supplements yesterday to try and help me recover quicker.

CatMattress · 26/02/2023 07:38

Omg. I am so fed up of my auto correct.

Opening sentence should read "I've not been very well"

The rest of the typos are easier to decipher.

ILiveAt64ZooLane · 26/02/2023 07:40

I was just going to google cyrene @CatMattress 😹

@MangoPineapple11 aww thank you!
You've made me smile already.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy and thankful to even have my children with me.

My teenage son runs and gives me a cuddle when something nice happens to him like winning a game

Omg. Mortified. I wish mumsnet would consider a 2 minute edit window because I never see those mistakes until my post turns pink!

This makes me so happy. My little boy (making the most of saying that while it's still true) has always given the BEST hugs so I am very happy to know I still have a lifetime to enjoy them.

MangoPineapple11 · 26/02/2023 09:33

Oh I just love a cuddle!
