4 year old shoe size

Hi there

My little girl turned 4 last month. Her feet haven't grown in over a year, is this normal?

I was looking at photos from a year ago in my phone 'memories' and she's still wearing the same shoes.

She is only a side 7!

She's 25th centile for height and always has been so she's consistent with that at least.

I'm only a size 4 myself and petite so not expecting her to have massive feet but thought they would grow more steadily at this point

Absolutely normal for some children definitely. DS is 3 and his shoe size is a tiddly 5. He has friends who wore bigger sized shoes when then first started walking. Grin

I think you are doing the right thing just monitoring it. I wouldn't be concerned yet. My two grew more in the summer and autumn.

Count yourself lucky for now on the money you are saving. Both my boys had their first walking shoes a week after their first birthday and took a 6. They started school age 5 and took a size 1!

I think if your only a 4 she ain't gona have big feet 🤣 I wish mine were like that I can't keep up with shoes for them

Nephew is 5 and a size 11…

Im a size 8 which is a nightmare for a woman
My friend is a size 4
Partner is size 13/14 and again a nightmare

Everyone is different

doadeer · 26/02/2023 02:14

My DS is 4 and a 12.5, his feet have grown a lot slower this year, between 2 and 3 they increased monthly! If she is petite this sounds normal for her.

redpinkyellow · 26/02/2023 02:27

My 5 year old is size 11 but has been this size for 18 months!!!!
Before this she was going through shoes within weeks. When we got her shoes for reception the lady in the shop said it's normal to go through sizes quickly & then plateau & said in her experience it happens at any age.

We went a half size up for her reception shoes with insoles and we took them out just before half term

DS is 4 and an eleven, a year ago it felt like he needed new shoes every few weeks, it does seem to have slowed down now. He's tall though , I'm 5'9 with size 7/7.5 and DH is 6'4 with randomly small size 9 feet.
You're obviously quite small, what's her dad like? DS has bigger feet than my 7.5 year old DN, but I'm taller than my brother and SIL isn't much more than 5'

HowToExplainRight · 26/02/2023 05:36

My DD's feet don't seem to grow steadily like DS's seem to do, it's like she has random, sudden growth spurts. I always think "oh, she's been wearing those shoes for ages" and then about a month or two later says her shoes are too small. She's wearing last years winter boots, something DS never managed to do!

hbbyno2 · 26/02/2023 06:26

My 3 y/o wears a 10. But his growth seems sudden, can you wait a couple months in case she has a growth spurt? Or buy just a 1/2 size bigger?

BooCrew · 26/02/2023 06:33

My son's just turned 4 and wears a size 7 too, and he's 25th centile. He's gone up a size this year but he definitely has smaller feet than most his age. However his feet are the same size as my friend's daughter who is the same height and age as him.

His dad wears a men's size 7, so on the small side for a man.

FlounderingFruitcake · 26/02/2023 06:43

I don’t think it’s that usual. DD started reception at just turned 4 in size 7.5 shoes and they lasted the year. Then she grew a size and a half over the summer, now wears a 9 but has been in those since September. She’s not even petite- 60th-ish percentile for height.

lemonmama · 26/02/2023 07:06

My 4 year olds feet don't grow very fast. He's been a size 8 for months and months.

BendingSpoons · 26/02/2023 07:11

I bought my DD new school shoes (for nursery) weeks before lockdown, just before she turned 4. I thought they would be wasted but she was still wearing them over a year later. I think they were size 8.

My DS4 is a 9. My DD7 is 10/11 now.

Saturdaydreamingway2355555 · 26/02/2023 08:14

Both mine have small feet, my 7 nearly 8 year old is an 11.5 kids, most of his peers are at least a 1/2. My 3 nearly 4 year old is a size 6 kids …… both are pretty petite. My eldest is on the 2nd centile for context!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/02/2023 08:19

DS started school in a size 8. He was so tiny, parents used to comment “some of them don’t look old enough to be in school” every time his class walked back out of Friday afternoon assembly. I got an absolute bargain though of £5 for a pair of Clark’s school shoes from a shop in town that was stopping doing children’s shoes!

His feet always grew slowly until he turned 13 last year and now he’s an adult size 8.

Bloatstoat · 26/02/2023 09:03

DD has just turned 4 - she's big and is a shoe size 11, but she's still wearing the shoes I brought round Easter time last year so her feet haven't grown in ages either. She's very cross about it as her brother's feet have gone up a size since September so he needs new school shoes and trainers and she wants new too! So I think not growing for a while is happening here too.

polkadotpixie · 26/02/2023 10:04

My 4.5 year old DS is an 8, has been for ages

Snowpaw · 08/08/2023 14:08

I just bought first school shoes for my 4.5yr old - she's a size 13 which seems huge compared to other people on here and my real life friends. She is tall though and generally just seems to have a big skeleton, like her tall Dad.
