Healthy snack ideas

W went to cut down on the junk food we have at home. Dd (16) doesn’t eat particularly healthily and Dh needs to lose some weight.

Dd is very fussy with food, she doesn’t eat much fruit or veg. She likes packet of things to snack on after school. I’ve recently discovered lentil crisps which seem ok but I need some other ideas.

Handful of almonds

Wholemeal pitta breads cut into in strips with cucumber carrot or pepper sticks & hummous

Yogurt & a scoop of granola or pumpkin seeds

Oatcakes & philadelphia

She hates nuts! The last one might be a possibility.

Pop your own pop corn
Roasted chickpeas are good.

Home made baked pita chips with salsa and guacamole

A meal is best if you are hungry. To tide over if it’s a long gap: smoothies? Something with protein and/or fat to fill up that isn’t sugar or simple carbs - I eat plain yoghurt, sometimes cheese. Hot soup in a mug to fill up? Need to try to find ways to make fruit and veg more palatable.

Thank you, I will try some of these. I’m preparing myself for a lot of moaning from dd that there’s nothing to eat 😂

When I said home made baked pita chips I didn't mean homemade pita. Shop bought pita, cut into pieces, spray with oil, season and place in oven.

Thank you, I will try those!

I have an air fryer, any good ideas for snacks I can make in it?

Between meals if I'm really hungry, I have:

  • nuts
  • celery with dip
  • pita and humous
  • Greek yoghurt and chia with some bits of fruit in
  • spoonful of peanut butter
