Hi all I'm watching this dated but enjoyable sitcom from the 80s on bbciplayer.
The acting's great and Jane Asher and Felicity Kendal are always watchable though like a lot of Carla Lane comedies the characters are well observed but the comedy of the gentle variety.

For example, now 'The Mistress' has met 'The Wife' and she sees that she's a 'real' person it seems predictable that she'll now feel guilty and that rings true.

Anyway, I was too young to remember it first time and googling the episodes reveals no clue as to how it ends.

I suspect The Wife is also cheating, or knows about it all along and leaves to live happily ever after, The Mistress meets a single guy and the married man is left on his own.

Please say if you know - I haven't the patience to wait. 😁

Reading with intrigue

I watched this and can't believe the ending. It's so frustrating and open ended!

I've been watching this recently and hadn't seen it since the first time round. I've always loved Butterflies and The Mistress seems to have been a forgotten Carla Lane series. Watching it nearly 40 years later the script seems like a Carla Lane parody. All the idiosyncrasies, the quirky dialogue and unnatural conversations that are part of Butterflies, for me, I felt that they seemed to grate in The Mistress.

I agree very open-ended. About 15 minutes in I thought there's no resolution here.
Perhaps another series was on the cards that didn't happen.
I stuck with this for 12 weeks as they couldn't be binge watched.
