I worked as a holiday rep - AMA

Not sure if anyone will be interested but I’m happy to answer any questions people may have.

I worked as a holiday rep for Club 18-30 in the mid 2000s for a few years. I worked in resorts including Magaluf, Malia, Zante and Ayia Napa.

It was such a fun, care free time in my life although it wasn’t without its challenges. It’s a distant memory now that I’m married with 2 DC!

Were there some absolute numpties or were people mainly nice?

Starlighttwinkle · 23/02/2023 19:31

I’d say 80% nice people 20% numpties. During the bar crawls, booze cruises etc when people were drunk that would probably change to 60% nice 40% numpties 🤣

During my four years as a rep I had to evict around 9 groups of guests from their accommodation

What were the reasons you had to evict them?

What was the worst behaviour you saw?

Starlighttwinkle · 23/02/2023 21:46

It turns my stomach but a number of groups were evicted for ‘dirty protest’ type incidents. Young lads on holiday getting drunk and egging each other on results in some pretty grim behaviour

TW: assault - The worst behaviour I saw (which resulted in their eviction) was a male pinning me against a wall and spitting in my face because he was unhappy with the beach party. I was 18 at the time and just sort of brushed it off. I of course look back in horror now! I did feel empowered the next day walking in to their room and giving them 5 minutes to pack their bags!

Ooh my friend tried to convince me to
go on one of these holidays every summer but it really wasn’t my scene 😆

How much time did you spend partying and how much working?!

KayDog · 23/02/2023 21:48

Wow that sounds gross

Sorry for your experience, must have been very tough at times!!!

Zuffe · 23/02/2023 21:51

What type of Christmas tree do you put up - real or artificial?

purplecorkheart · 23/02/2023 21:57

Have you ever had a holidaymaker get arrested? Is the rep expected to help them out/contact embassy etc?

Cosycover · 23/02/2023 22:05

Were you allowed to drink?

Did you ever get with any of the holiday makers?

LadyCassandra · 23/02/2023 22:17

I was a rep in 2001/2 in Crete, not 18-30s though. Partied very hard and had a brilliant time. However, did get assaulted a couple of times and got my drink spiked (was fortunately rescued by some friends). I look back now with horror!
The male reps were the worst, every single one I knew had had their heart broken and were on some sort of revenge shagging marathon!

Starlighttwinkle · 23/02/2023 22:25

Yes we were allowed to drink, just not to the point of being really drunk whilst at work. Ultimately, it was a sales job so management wanted you to have fun with the holidaymakers so that you could sell them more excursions! I got put on a few drinking bans for taking it too far 🤣

I got with many a guest. I was always falling for them and would be so sad when they went home. Until someone else caught my eye!

@LadyCassandra I can’t believe some of the situations I found myself in. Some through my own stupidity, some through no fault of my own. Being a rep really is an eye opener. I feel it shaped the person I am today though
