Losing weight in pregnancy

Due to a combination of pretty severe depression and highly stressful life events (now resolved) I've put on lots of weight. I'm 5ft3 and 12st exactly which is way too much for my height. I was just getting into the swing of reducing my food intake and was doing well and now find myself pregnant. A happy surprise, my DS is 8 and I didn't think I'd have any more, but in my first pregnancy I put on 4 stone as I felt sick unless I was eating and the only things I wanted to eat were bread and potatoes (I usually love veggies and salad). I was at a lower starting point then than I am now and I'm terrified of it happening again. I obviously am realistic and know I cannot go on a fad diet in pregnancy but is it possible to still lose weight in the first trimester at least? Any experiences?

So, when I fell pregnant with my third, I had just lost 5 stone.

I was still 15 stone 9lb when I fell pregnant (I’m 5’4”), and no intention of putting any on.

I suffer from HG, but it was controlled okay ish with drugs this time. First trimester was still rough though, I was still sick quite a lot until we got the combination of medication right.

I was careful with what I ate. Lots of healthy fats, so fish, salads, home made meat curries. I was healthy throughout.

The day before I gave birth I was still 15st 9lb.

A week after, I was just under 15 stone (6lb 6oz baby). My two older children were small babies too - so it wasn’t because I hadn’t gained weight, she was actually my largest baby by a couple of ounces.

My midwife never mentioned a thing about weight. My BMI was just under 40 but I was consultant led anyway as I was having a section, and they never mentioned it either, no one seemed to care what I weighed at any point!

I was terrified of getting GD this time though, I didn’t have it in my two previous pregnancies and I had been low carbing for a year anyway, so I carried that on and didn’t eat sugar at all.
