Grown women and baby talk 🤮

I work with middle aged women.
Sometimes their behaviour is like school girls and I find it childlike.Today one spoke to the other in a baby voice.
Admittedly she does have dcs so perhaps she was in parent mode.I find it odd.
I'm sure she was trying to cheer the sixty something up but really.Am I missing something.?

What kind of behaviour? What did she say in a baby voice?
I don't think it's necessary to behave like a mature adult all the time, it's boring.

Sure she wasnt pretending to be yoda?

whatisforteamum · 23/02/2023 16:03

Nothing in particular just in a way people talk to babies or pets which I understand.

Was she teasing or doing an impression or joke or something? Or just talking about something normal, work related, but in a babyish voice?

whatisforteamum · 23/02/2023 16:05

No normal stuff in a babyish voice.

I don't think she would do it to me being hard faced and all.

My SIL does this. Drives me crazy and feels increasingly weirder as she gets older and all the children in our family are now teens or adults so no need to talk baby to anyone! Not that I did when they were little either. Wonder if she does it at work 😂

Trez1510 · 23/02/2023 16:16

I get what you mean OP.

Adult women talking in baby voices or sing-song little girl voices makes me feel physically sick.

I'm afraid it's a visceral reaction in me that means I leave the room when anyone does that, for fear I'll punch them. 😳

whatisforteamum · 23/02/2023 16:33

I normally work with men and have done for decades.
I keep expecting them to go to the loo together. From a manager it seems bizarre. 🙄

@whatisforteamum yep I’d hate that too. For what it’s worth, I’ve work in a male dominated industry for years and changed to an all female office… it took a while to adapt.

whatisforteamum · 23/02/2023 16:45

Cleanthatup it is like the film hot fuzz.
I feel like I've landed up somewhere quite odd.🤣

I used to work with a woman like that. The baby voices did my freakin head in. She usually put that voice on when she was talking about her partner i.e. quoting something she said to him last night or similar. It was so annoying and childlike. She was 50 years of age and I was a fw years younger and would be thinking "oh grow the fuck up woman".

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 23/02/2023 17:47

Ex MiL used to put on what I can only describe as a tweety pie voice, complete with coquettish Princess Diana face. 'Aww, dat's sooo kooot! I fort you mights likes thats!' to her guests
Then she'd suddenly switch back to suet pudding face with eyes like raisins when she saw me.
I yearned for years to call her darling mummy wummy in lawwy wawwy with an absolute straight face. I didn't actually hate her at the time, I just cringed. I do hate her now though.

whatisforteamum · 24/02/2023 15:06

Sadeyedlady I think I was sick in my mouth. That is dreadful.
I don't know why they do it.Is the person speaking childlike or do they think the recipients are.

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea

'Aww, dat's sooo kooot! I fort you mights likes thats!

I see this ridiculous type of speaking on twitter accounts that people make for their cat. 'ello hoomans, can i sit wiv yoo and show yoo sumfink i found in da garden?' and 'happy fwiday to ev-wee one. I wubz mi hooman and she iz going to tek me to da vets for my yearly checkupz tomoz.'

Nauseating. Shock
