Moon landing film. Please help me find it mumsnet.

Does anyone remember watching a film during the early 90s. It was based on a true story about the faking of the moon landing.

They sent a shuttle up but then the men landed in a dessert somewhere. One by one the men died in mysterious circumstances.

I have had a Google but can't find anything. I was just telling dh about it and he's never heard of it. It's driving mad that I can't find it.

Please help mumsnet.

To be clear. I am not saying the moon landings were faked or not.

It was about men who thought they were going to the moon but didn't and they all ended up dead or making a deal with the American Government to keep quiet and still ended up dead.

Well that's basically the plot of Capricorn One except they faked going to Mars.
Are you sure you arent getting mixed up somewhere?

Yes, Capricorn One fits the desert thing.

It's definitely Capricorn One. The crew are taken off the spacecraft shortly before launch and taken to a building in the desert. The moonwalks etc. are faked.

When everything goes wrong with the mission the crew have to be disposed off. Lots of helicopter shooting, hot desert scenes.

And finally, the big comeuppance at the end.

Was one of my favourite films.

And, if by any chance a shuttle and Mars IS involved etc then it's a direct rip-off of Cap One.

Thanks all. I am going to see if I can find capricorn one tonight and see if that's it. I remember it being more modern though and set in modern times. Maybe my mind is playing tricks.

Did they cause thousands of NASA employees' deaths also in this film? As they'd have had to be in on the "fake".

The images in the trailer don't represent all of the film. the cinematography of the part in the desert is more like the bleached out colour/realism of The China syndrome or Andromeda Strain.

A film you saw in the 90s might have seemed different thought I do find the trailer incredibly dated. But in 1990 a film from 1978 wouldn’t look so odd. OJ Simpson looks exactly as I remember him!

mum loves space films, that’s the reason I remember it.
