Stressful job with weekends off V retail job with no stress but working some weekends

I was in a really horrible stressful job in which I spent so much time in tears and riddled with anxiety however there was no weekend work and you benefited from bank holidays etc. however I hated it.

Would you consider going to a retail job that had no stress not much worse off in terms of hrly rate but had to work some weekends and evenings?

It depends on other circumstances. Before I had a kid I worked Sunday-Thurs. I loved having the day off on Friday when most other people were working and going to work on Sunday when public transport was quiet. Occasionally it was annoying when things were planned on a Sunday and I couldn’t go. I also had to work bank holidays, Xmas etc which I didn’t mind. My DP was self employed so I didn’t miss out on time with him.

But now I have DC weekends are the only quality time I get with them so I couldn’t do it.

You're doing the right thing looking for a way out from a job which is impacting your wellbeing. Working weekends and bank holidays isn't that bad once used to it, but don't expect retail to be a walk in the park. Yuy might be lucky and find a good employer who values and respects you, but retail is rife with businesses treating their staff like shit in all sorts of ways which customers and the public are oblivious to. The grass might not always be greener. But on a positive if you're hard working and reliable with decent skills you can pick and choose where to work more than ever at the moment and don't need to accept being treated like crap anywhere.

It depends... I'm in retail of sorts, the worst bit isn't weekends, it's Bank Holidays, December, never having a decent Christmas holiday. I'm looking to move on as I want to travel to relatives at Christmas sometimes, or go away.... but we have a block on leave in December.

Depends on the retail job ,i work in retail (supermarket) and it is pretty stressful due to lack of staff people leave and are no longer replaced, having to cover various depts including pharmacy despite not being trained ,on a positive i have set shifts (newer staff dont they are on a rota) i do have to do one late night and one weekend shift ,i also have to do 3 bank holidays ,xmas and new year are voluntary

I think you might be underestimating the stress levels in retail unless you intend to work in a tiny village bookshop.

What is it that you find stressful? The pace of the work, workload, colleagues, working environment? Supermarkets are loud, bright, short staffed and the public can be very rude (my mum has been spat at, had a tin of beans lobbed at her head etc whilst working on the shop floor) it really isn't a stress free environment, it's just stressful in a different way.

How about finding a different type of job that does not require weekend work?

Also when i worked clothing retail it was compulsory to work boxing day /new years day and if im honest i fully expect where i work now to stop the voluntary working for xmas day/ new year

Retail is hellish. Think of something else.
